Cozy restaurant run by a sweet elderly couple. We had the katsu, which was amazing!! So tender and delicious! And we also had the curry, soo delicious and hearty! Both meals together costed 1500 Yen.

It was wonderful experience with authentic Japanese cuisine. Old couple is running this store and they were very kind and caring. Though there is no English menu, it’s possible to order with pictures.

Curry rice large portion 850 yen, croquette single item 350 yen. It's a bit far from the station, but it's a set meal shop near the Seiyu parking lot. The daily menu and such are good value, but I sometimes crave the curry here. When it comes to curry from this kind of set meal shop, I thought it would be the good old-fashioned Japanese curry, but it's the opposite of thin curry with incredible viscosity. It's a heavy, filling curry with the crunchy texture of onions and carrots, and plenty of thick curry roux over the rice. I ordered a single croquette because I wanted to pair it with this. It was a crispy croquette, though I couldn't tell if it was frozen or handmade. As a result, it ended up being more expensive than a katsu curry, but it can't be helped.

If you're going to eat your way around the Kichijoji area, it's a bit late to say this, but you have to visit [Maruken Shokudo] at least once, so I had the popular [Katsu Curry 950 yen (tax included)]. Even the regular portion is enough to fill you up. The cost performance and taste are decent, enjoyed the popular diner, thank you for the meal 😋

Visited in July 2025, just after 18:00 on a holiday. The interior is a small space with only 3 tables of various sizes, seating a maximum of 14 people. There were 2 customers ahead of me. The landlady guided me to sit at the corner of the large table, and I immediately ordered the eggplant stir-fry set meal (650 yen). It's so cheap. It's cheaper than Yoshinoya's large beef bowl (740 yen), I thought, and it was served after about 10 minutes of waiting. The thinly sliced eggplant was soft and wilted, well-coated in soy sauce, and delicious. As if to compensate for the weakness of the wilted texture, the aroma of sesame oil complements it, giving a sense of vitality to the whole dish. It's good. It goes well with rice. Between the thinly sliced eggplants, thinly sliced pork belly is also visible. The amount is not large, and I feel a fleeting sense of the meat's volume, but for some reason, a sense of joy and gratitude wells up. The rice is fluffy and delicious. The portion is about 200g, which I think is a very standard serving. The miso soup has a faint aroma of koji and a deep, savory flavor. The ingredient I thought was daikon was actually turnip, and the scent of the earth faintly brushed my nose, which strangely evoked nostalgia. It's a truly homey shop, and if it were near my house, I'd probably go there twice a week. Thank you for the meal.
