This historic curry shop far exceeded our expectations. We’d easily rank their Japanese curry among the best we’ve ever had, anywhere. The curry was rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. The shop itself is simply decorated, creating a warm, cozy atmosphere that adds to the experience. A place we’d happily come back to!
View on GoogleWander around the streets of Kichijoji and you'll stumble upon this cosy, unassuming store specialising in Japanese curry with rice. The smell drew is in and we quickly found ourselves a table amidst the tables full of locals. We got the Special Chicken Curry which was also packed with vegetables, beans, and topped with a whole boiled egg. Presentation alone was stunning, and the curry itself was rich, thick, and packed with flavour with a hint of heat. The beans also lent a delightfully nutty edge to every bite. If you're like us who loves spice, there's also shichimi to give a spicy peppery kick. The Mushroom Curry (1300yen) was also as yummy, and the gravy had a different taste to it due to the absence of beans. Our only complaint would be that for the price, they could have been a tad bit more generous with the proteins (there were only 3 chunk of chicken given!). However, we still enjoyed the meal and would recommend anyone who's in the area to this cozy establishment.
View on GoogleReally cute homey curry restaurant! Makes for a great dinner after ghibli museum and strolling around the area. They have mushroom curry on weekdays too! The decors r great and truly brings out the personality of the owners.
View on GoogleI’ve been a few times before. The food is always pretty good and it’s a refreshingly quiet place (rare in Kichijoji!). One negative note, though: the staff are all wearing masks, standing at the back or in the kitchen staring out blankly, waiting for me to pass over… I mean leave. It felt a bit like a palliative care facility. Masks just feel so disconnecting, especially in hospitality. In 2026, one has to hope they’re not being forced to wear them. EDIT: Masks are off the menu! Much better atmos.
View on GoogleThis is a very late review, but I had to post because I love this place so much. The shop is super quaint and so unassuming, but man, their curries pack a punch. I was actually surprised at how spicy it can get. They have seating for two and for solo diners as well.
