A local islander brought me here. It's close to an area that's still off-limits even now, but you can feel the tremendous power of the past eruption that blew away part of the mountain. Apparently on a clear, sunny day you can clearly see from Oshima to Hachijojima and even Mt. Fuji; unfortunately it was cloudy, but even so the nearby islands were clearly visible.

I climbed up via the road on the Toga Shrine side. You get a nice view on the way up. However, from around the public toilet at the top, it seems to have become a crow colony, with dozens of them circling right in front of me and overhead, and I honestly got scared I might be attacked. This is probably where the island's crows nest, and being alone with just a bicycle was a bit scary. On the way back I took the forest road that comes out on the opposite side, the Volcano Experience Promenade side, but speeding along that forest road was pretty risky with the cracks and bits of wood. Partway there's a sabo dam, with a secret vibe that feels a little like Laputa.

The view of the Izu Seven Islands is the best. I went by rental car, but the road is hard to figure out. Don't give up and go all the way to the top—a spectacular view awaits.

2026 8 14 When I went to rent a car, I was told I should go to this observatory, so I went (〃ω〃) A lovely place where you can get a feel for Miyakejima's atmosphere!

I ended up parking at the lower parking lot, but it seems you could drive all the way up. After walking up a steep slope for about 10 minutes, I reached the observatory. The wind was fierce, but it was sunny and I could even see Mt. Fuji. You can see far into the distance, and it feels really refreshing.
