An observatory with a wooden deck from which you can see Tairoike Pond and Mikurajima, and even Hachijojima on clear days. It's a wooden observatory that comes into view after driving a while from Shichito Observatory toward Tsubota on the ring road that runs along the mid-slope of Mt. Oyama. Make sure to always come from the Shichito Observatory side. From Shichito Observatory the road surface is well maintained and easy to drive, but on the opposite side the road condition is pretty terrible. There are many stretches full of bumps and dips, and it's especially dangerous for motorcycles. Even cars sink down a lot, so there's a very high chance of damaging your rental car. Also, the road keeps being hard to pass oncoming traffic on, so drivers who can't pass oncoming cars, can't pull over to the side, or aren't good at reversing really must access it from the Shichito Observatory side — otherwise you'll truly regret it, because that kind of road goes on for quite a while. From the observatory you can see from Tairoike Pond to Mikurajima, and even Hachijojima on clear days — it's one of the best viewpoints on the island.
View on GoogleYou can come here by car, and there's a parking lot. However, it's an unpaved road, and partway it's rough. Of course, you can't pass oncoming cars, and in my case the oncoming car backed up a long way for me. I went through all that to get there, but the observatory was under construction and I couldn't go onto the deck. Still, it was a beautiful pond.
View on GoogleYou drive along a forest road. When I drove it there were no oncoming cars, but it's hard to pass each other, so one side has to back up to a pull-out lane where the road gets partly wider.

View on GoogleA beautiful observatory with the contrast of the gentle blue of the sky, the deep blue of the sea, and the green of the mountains! It's a place that makes you want to go on a sunny day
