After visiting Omasu Daizai’s museum and exhibit, I strolled along the streets of Mitaka at a refreshing 4 degrees celsius. I happened upon a 60+ years old ramen shop “Wantanmen no Mangetsu Mitaka Ten (ワンタンメンの満月)” serving Yamagata-style ramen with wanton. The ramen soup taste was a mild version of sanpoten, but it was still enjoyable at 1100 yen with free mizu (9 SGD). Nothing beats a bowl of warm ramen at 4 degrees Celsius on a Japanese street.
View on GoogleThis ramen is highly recommended for those who prefer a light and refreshing taste. For those who like rich flavors, it seems they can make it richer upon request. (I’d like to try the richer version next time!) The distinctive feature of this ramen is the wonton topping. This ramen originates from Sakata in Yamagata, a region where rock seaweed is commonly harvested and eaten. I decided to add the rock seaweed as a topping, and it turned out to be incredibly delicious. In my case, I shared one plate of rock seaweed with another person, and the portion was just right for the two of us.

View on GoogleVery famous ramen restaurant. Salted flavoured ramen and soy sauce flavoured ramen both had elegant taste. The wontons melted.
View on GoogleI have visited this ramen restaurant twice and the summer special cold wonton ramen is incredible. I crave this every time I am hungry and hope to make a trip back there soon. I used to be an avid iekei ramen fan but now this style is my new favourite. The shop is rather small but when I went there I could get a seat straight away, although on the weekends it would not surprise me if there was a queue. The soup is light and flavourful and the wontons have a silky texture when you bite into them.
