I visited on a Sunday afternoon. Even though it was open, the door wasn't open; if you inquire via the intercom of the residential space about 5 meters to the right of the door, you'll be let in after a short while. I've visited many art museums in Japan and abroad, and felt I had a rough grasp of the styles of most famous painters and the tendencies of each country, but I didn't really understand Russian tendencies, and I take my hat off to the director's extensive knowledge of Russian art. Apparently he has written around 10 books, and he is a person of wide connections and deep expertise, to the point that top-class Russian painters contribute texts to their prefaces. With the current state of the world making opportunities to encounter Russian art scarce, this was a valuable opportunity. I heard that the director worked for a Japanese company in Moscow during the turbulent era of the '80s and '90s. His stories were interesting too, and it was a welcome opportunity that stimulated my intellectual curiosity. One thing: I thought that if you don't have a certain level of interest in and knowledge of art, you might find it lacking. Though that may be an unnecessary worry for people who come here after looking it up.

A rare gallery specializing in contemporary Russian art. Precisely because of the times, I wanted to see the actual works with unclouded eyes. It was more wonderful than I'd imagined, and I sensed a view of nature that resonates with Japan's too. The director himself taught me how to view the paintings, which was very educational.

You can see masterpieces collected by the owner. If you go when nobody else is there, they'll carefully explain each one, so even beginners can feel at ease. I went several times before COVID, and at the time they said they'd start changing the works each season, so I'm looking forward to my next visit.
