Wonderful atmosphere and delicious selection of food! If you’re a fan of small plates and sampling different things, Umaya is just the place. I would especially recommend the green onion yakitori, which we promptly ordered more of because we couldn’t get enough. The grilled cod was buttery and melt-in-your-mouth soft, just be careful for bones! There wasn’t a single bite we didn’t absolutely love. A must try in Akasaka!

The staff at the front was very nice and accommodating!! We had one of the best liver dishes in my life. It just melt in my mouth... The best thing is to book before going.

One of the my best find while just strolling around the area! The place is quite lovely and they have a very affordable lunch menu of kyushu cuisine that is being charcoal grilled in front of you if you ever get sitted on the bar counter! For the place and experience and food itself this is already a gem by its friendly pricing and incredible staff. Would definitely come back soon!

Arrived at 11:25am before they opened at 11:30am and there was already a line. Line consisted of all locals, did not see a single tourist. Most locals had a reservation, and we were told that it would be an hour wait. We waited 30 minutes. They had an English menu. We ordered the “Backstage Meal of Kabuki Actor Ennosuke Ichikawa III” which costs 1950 yen at the time. Meal for the price and variety, solid 10/10 meal. My girlfriend does not normally like almond pudding, but even she was blown away and debated on ordering another one, what a great way to end the meal. Almond pudding 10/10!! 🍮

Produced by Ennosuke Ichikawa, a renowned Kabuki actor. Blends the world of traditional Japanese theatre with authentic Kyushu cuisine. Housed in a renovated traditional three story wooden house. The decor features Kabuki memorabilia, elegant woodwork, and soft lighting. Private and high end feel without being stuffy.
