A small restaurant about a 7-minute walk from Omotesando Station. The overall interior brings to mind an East Coast pub, and at the counter seats you are close to the cook. It has a quiet atmosphere, so you can relax. This time I visited at lunchtime. There were already about 6 customers, and since I was alone, I sat at the counter. As it was my first visit and the restaurant is called Kakidokoro, I ordered the fried oyster lunch. (Though the daily lunch special, Chinese-style ajillo, also caught my attention a little…) A plate of 6 fried oysters with cabbage and tomato, plus soup, almond pudding, and rice. Considering the location, 6 fried oysters for 1000 yen feels like quite a good deal. The oysters were plump, rich, and properly good oysters. Getting 6 of these is pretty impressive. They came with tartar sauce and a thin Worcestershire sauce. The Worcestershire sauce went very well with the fried oysters, so I did not feel the shortage of tartar sauce that often happens with fried oyster set meals. The soup was perhaps a consommé with vegetables and egg? But partly because it was a hot day, I found the flavor a little lacking. The almond pudding had a pronounced vanilla bean flavor and was just right after the meal. The set meal alone was a little short on quantity for me, so I asked for more rice and ordered the spring roll on the menu. This turned out to be a winner. It had an oyster cooked medium rare inside a crisply fried spring roll wrapper. The delicious oyster flavor that normally escapes during cooking was absorbed into the potato starch sections at both ends of the wrapper, creating lovely umami. It is a dish with the potential to stand on its own even without rice. The fried oyster set meal and spring roll came to 1200 yen in total. The rice refill was not charged separately. Beyond the quality, being able to get more rice meant I was satisfied with the quantity too. I do wish there had been a little more cabbage, but even taking that into account, this is a restaurant I want to give 5 stars. I think I will try visiting in the evening next time.
