We loved our meal here - we were the only two guests and were warmly welcomed - it’s on the 4th floor so if you didn’t know it was there, you’d walk right by it. The owners are so friendly and It had a real family feel. We ordered the set menu and sat at the teppanyaki grill to watch the chef at work. All the food was delicious and we were offered a complimentary glass of wine with our A5 Wagyu. The chef talked to us through a translator to help with English / Japanese translation and it was such a lovely experience. A place that really deserves and appreciates the custom - we were so glad we visited.

We managed to get seats at the counter on a spontaneous whim - and are so happy it worked out! We had a wonderful experience with delicious food, a friendly and welcoming team, and very personal attention. Highly recommended, and its worth getting there early to enjoy the cozy restaurant while it's quiet (and have a bit more time for a very happy, full belly to digest before bed).

What an exception experience!!! We made our reservation as it was a quick walk from out hotel. Located on the 4th floor of a nondescript building, you'll immediately get the sense of family and intimate dining as Tanaka Hiroko is both the proprietor and chef!! Coming from the US, our Teppanyaki experiences here are flashy, showy, greasy, crowded and noisy. Sun Sho was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of anything I have experienced. Everything is prepared with care, precision and friendly discussions with Tanaka and her other staff member. The food was outstanding!! We chose the pre-fixe menu and did a Scallop add on. Everything was full of flavor and sliced and cooked to perfection!! The experience wasn't rushed, we enjoyed taking our time and enjoying Tanaka's company while we sat in front of her cooking our world class dinner. Truly exceptional and memorable. These small unique places are some of the best parts of Japan and I would highly encourage you to visit Sun Sho!!! A dining experience to not be missed. Thank you Tanaka for a delightful evening for our group on 6 on our last day in Japan.

We had not only the BEST dinner, but all around the BEST time in Akasaka at this restaurant. Food was immaculate, and they went above and beyond making us feel welcome! We sat at the counter where we can watch while she cooked; highly recommend it. I let her know I was pregnant, and she adjusted each dish intentionally for me! We had the course menu and I felt like every dish she served was truly served with love and affection. Each dish was cooked to perfection, she really let the ingredients speak for themselves: the lotus root, the fish, the steak and wasabi, I can see why they have 4.9 stars. The chef had a small translation device and we were able to communicate through it. Our waitress spoke some English and another employee spoke some Spanish, so we were able to have small conversations in each language. I would 100% eat there again and again.

We had an absolutely unforgettable evening at Hiroko Tanaka’s Teppanyaki. We arrived quite late and without a reservation, around 9.30 pm, and the counter was still full. Despite that, Hiroko warmly welcomed us and arranged another table. Later, once the other guests had left, we had the incredible privilege of sitting alone at the teppanyaki counter. What followed felt truly special. We brought our parents to give them a memorable experience and Hiroko delivered far beyond that. She treated us with such genuine care and warmth that she felt like our Japanese “mama” by the end of the night. With the help of a translation device, we had a surprisingly deep and intimate conversation with her that made the whole evening even more meaningful. The food was exceptional. The beef soup to start was outstanding. The vegetables were incredibly rich in flavour. And then the wagyu beef… simply wow. We asked for it lightly done, and Hiroko prepared it perfectly: tender, juicy, and easily the best quality beef we have ever had. This was one of our best evenings in Japan. Truly unforgettable, both for the food and for the human connection. If you are anywhere nearby, do not miss this place.
