Super delicious teishoku set meal. The fish is wonderfully charred til the skin gets crispy. Very filling. Come early, order from the menu, then get seated. Free refills on rice, daikon oroshi, and mugicha. Can’t wait to come back and try items.

The charcoal aroma here is exquisite, and the chef’s mastery in grilling fish is truly remarkable. While Tokyo offers countless options for lunch, this place, to me, stands above them all — the most satisfying meal one can have in Japan. It is a rare gem in the Azabu area, cherished by locals for its authenticity and quiet excellence.

Really tasty fish. Lunch deals are good,~¥1300, but I also recommend it for dinner. If you can’t read or speak Japanese, come with someone who does because all the menu is in Japanese and they don’t have pictures. I really like the gindara in miso sauce and the kuromutsu, but any fish tastes good. The ochatsuke is also good. If you don’t eat a lot for dinner, just order one fish dish, and a ochatsuke (rice in soup), for instance. They’ll also serve some otoshi at night, like the saba I posted in the pictures, which also tastes amazing.

Waited in the heat and humidity for about 30 minutes, but I was second in line 🙌 The first person ahead of me seemed like a regular—maybe even a neighborhood fixture. As the staff set up for service, she greeted them with a familiarity that suggested history, and they greeted her right back with the same warmth. Even random passersby were blessed with her contagious smile and happy salutations -: kids walking with their moms, the postman, a food delivery guy. She was like everyone’s favorite aunty ☺️ As soon as she was seated, at what was probably her regular counter spot, the staff brought her a steaming cup of hot tea—while everyone else got iced. That made me smile. I love when you witness those quiet gestures that speak volumes. Then came an extra bowl of grated daikon, which she promptly mixed with pickles and veggies to create her own appetizer. It was clear that this was not her first rodeo at this popular lunch place. I appreciated when she pushed the shared shoyu and furikake bowl towards me so that I wouldn't have to strain to reach them it was such a small thing, but it added so much richness to my first visit here. I was still enjoying my meal when she began gathering her things to leave but before she did, she encouraged me to eat lots of rice amd daikon as they are refillable ☺️ Moments like these make waiting in the heat feel completely worth it.

Best meal I’ve had in Tokyo. Grilled fish, fresh catch and smiling staff. Bring cash
