Amazing museum! No one speaks English but you can enjoy art without translation. Have in mind that’s it’s 3 floors, not 2! And also nice open terrace, but sadly no photos inside.

An ancient-style museum building stands in the middle of many high modern office buildings in 六本木. The building style would fit better in 上野公園, very interesting. Only a few people visited during weekday. A nice place to look at some exhibition quietly.

Quite the collection of fabrics from the early to late 19th century. Has a couple of statues from the Qing dynasty inside as well. I enjoyed the statues and sculptures the most. Unfortunately pictures inside are not permitted.

The Okura Museum of Art is a hidden gem in Tokyo, offering a serene and elegant atmosphere. The collection features exquisite Japanese and East Asian art, including ceramics, paintings, and sculptures. The traditional architecture of the museum complements the artworks perfectly, creating a harmonious experience. It’s a must-visit for art enthusiasts seeking a peaceful cultural escape.

This museum was established by Mr. Kihachiro Okura and developed by his son Mr. Kishichiro Okura who was founder of Hotel Okura. During early stage of Meiji era, there was political action of separation Shinto from Buddhism which were integrated in any aspect since around thousand years ago in Japan. Mr. Okura saved a lot of paintings and statues from destruction and those you can see here.
