Really enjoyed our first time experience with Shabu Shabu. The resteraunt is downstairs. I love feeling underground. Feels upscale with a very attentive server. She even explained and showed us how to enjoy it for our first time. Absolutely recommend ❤️
View on GoogleWe're a family of 4 and had a fantastic dinner at Musashi Akasaka. The Chef and lady, who I assumed were the owners, were very accommodating as we arrived an hour early for our booking and they welcomed us warmly and accommodated our early arrival. The meats and vegies were fresh, and the dashi soup stock was super tasty. Services were impeccable, Chef was genuinely friendly and took the time to explain the foods and drinks to us where relevant. The wife and I shared a house sake and he took the time to show us the bottle, explained the region, and gave us a little test to make sure we liked it. Overall a very enjoyable experience dining with the family at Musahi Akasaka, will definitely return and make it my 'go to' spot in Tokyo for shabu shabu.
View on GoogleTucked away in plain sight on a bustling street full of tempting options, this hidden gem is easy to miss—unless you’re looking for it. Luckily, we were, and we’re so glad we didn’t pass it by. With no flashy signage and only Japanese characters above the entrance, it’s clear this place wasn’t made with tourists in mind. But once you step through the simple door and descend the stairs, you’re transported into a cozy, underground haven of Japanese cuisine. The restaurant features a sleek bar area where you can sit and dine, as well as a back section with tables. We chose to sit at the bar, which gave us a front-row seat to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the shabu shabu (hot pot) platter—and it did not disappoint. The broth was rich and flavorful, the meat tender and savory, and the variety of dipping sauces added that perfect finishing touch. Naturally, we couldn’t resist adding wagyu to the mix. To drink, we sampled a bit of everything: wine, sake, beer, and barley tea. Each complemented the meal beautifully, with the sake standing out in particular. For travelers, it was a relief to find an English menu and a helpful guide on how to enjoy shabu shabu the right way—without it, we’d have been a bit lost! The service was another highlight. Despite a language barrier, the staff were exceptionally kind, professional, and attentive. Our server went out of her way to guide us through the entire experience. The meal came with appetizers, sashimi, dessert, and even ramen to finish off the broth—each course as delicious as the last. If you’re seeking an authentic, local shabu shabu experience away from the tourist traps, this place is an absolute must. We’ll definitely be back.
