I've been coming to Koumoto in Hiroo for nearly ten years, mainly for business dinners. The private rooms and attentive service were always the reasons I kept returning. Unfortunately, my most recent visit left me with a very different impression. Perhaps it was simply an off night, but both the service and the atmosphere seemed to have declined. The private room next to ours was occupied by a very loud group, which made it difficult to hold a comfortable business conversation. Another disappointing moment came when I stepped out to find the restroom. Although it was close to our room, I simply wanted to confirm the direction. Instead of pointing me the way, the staff member's response came across as surprisingly dismissive. The biggest disappointment came at the end of the evening. Not long after we had paid the bill, our private room became noticeably hot. It became so warm that my guest and I even joked that it felt like a not-so-subtle reminder that our evening was over. Whether that was intentional or not, we hadn't stayed particularly long, so it wasn't the final impression I had hoped for. The food itself remains good and is fair for the price. My disappointment wasn't with the cuisine—it was with the hospitality. A restaurant can serve excellent food, but service is what makes guests want to return. After nearly a decade of dining here, I sincerely hope this experience was an exception and that Koumoto can return to the level of hospitality that made it one of my regular choices for so many years.
View on GoogleThis is a quietly respected Japanese restaurant in Hiroo that is well evaluated on Tabelog and mainly known among local food-focused diners. The cooking is restrained and precise, with careful attention to balance, temperature, and seasonal nuance, which allows the ingredients to speak clearly without excess. For foreign foodies, it’s a good example of how understated technique and consistency define quality in everyday high-level Japanese dining. The atmosphere is calm and composed, more refined than casual but not stiff, and the staff maintain a steady, thoughtful pace throughout the meal. Even without strong Japanese skills, the experience feels smooth and comfortable. If you’re an international traveler looking for a locally trusted, quietly confident place in Hiroo, こうもと is somewhere I would recommend and return to without hesitation.
View on GoogleExcellent quality in this hidden restaurant. Delicious !! Next to standard menu always daily specials. Maybe a bit more on the expensive side. Only Japanese Menu
View on GoogleDiscovering this hidden gem in Tokyo was an extraordinary experience. Despite its unassuming exterior, the restaurant exudes a cozy and serene ambiance, making it an ideal destination for couples seeking a romantic evening. The restaurant’s culinary offerings are meticulously crafted using fresh and high-quality ingredients. The flavors are subtle and complementary, enhancing the natural taste of the ingredients. Each dish is meticulously executed, resulting in exquisite dishes. The sakura shrimp tempura was a standout, with its lattice crumbing and melting in your mouth. The fried Ayu looked lively and tasted amazing. The sashimi assortment of tuna, haddock, cuttlefish, and Kinmedai was incredibly fresh and melted in your mouth. In-house soba is a standout feature, boasting the perfect chew and consistency. The black sesame soba was particularly impressive, with an intense and fragrant black sesame flavor. The sake options were also exceptional, providing a delightful array of choices. Our dinner at this restaurant was truly memorable, and we eagerly anticipate returning to savor its exceptional cuisine once more.
View on GooglePricy, but worth. Soba restaurant, but unbelievable quality. First of all, very difficult to find the entrance - they don’t show off by luxurious entrance. However once you open the door, you will be walking past tiny but well maintained little garden. We used a room but if it’s for casual use, you can reserve counter in the ground floor. Traditional yet creative dishes, with good selection of wines. Highly recommended if you need some hidden restaurant in Nishiazabu area.
