View on GoogleThoughts on Roppongi's “竹やん” after its reopening In Roppongi, an izakaya has appeared that naturally makes you think, “I want to come back.” That's the newly renovated and reopened 竹やん. The moment you open the door, you feel a sense of calm and quality built around washi paper and bamboo. It has the sophistication you'd expect of Roppongi, yet somehow feels comforting— it has been reborn as a space where adults can let their shoulders relax. Every dish is carefully prepared. Rather than competing with flashiness, there's a refreshing commitment to serving only “truly delicious food.” From the first plate to the final dish, there's a reassuring sense that “you can't go wrong here.” What particularly impressed me was the seasoning and timing that naturally encourage another drink. Without interrupting conversation, it stretches time out pleasantly— it felt like “the perfected grown-up izakaya.” ✔ Alone after work ✔ A meal with someone special ✔ An evening of quiet conversation with like-minded friends 竹やん's strength is how effortlessly it fits each occasion. “They know a proper izakaya in Roppongi.” It's a place you'd quietly recommend to someone who wants to be described that way. Who should I come with next? You find yourself thinking that as you leave— that's 竹やん after the renovation.
View on GoogleWe went for an afterparty following a study session. It's a little way from Roppongi Station, so the streets around it are quiet. An izakaya standing on its own🏮 Maybe it's family-run? There weren't any other customers, so we could relax. The interior feels somehow nostalgic. Since it was an afterparty, we mostly drank rather than ate, so I felt a little bad... Thank you!
View on GoogleEven though it's in Roppongi, the place has a Showa-era feel. I visited early, and it was fun talking to the elderly chef! All the dishes were pretty tasty!
