香港楼 or "Hong Kong Rou" in romaji, is a hole in the wall Chinese place in Akasaka. My partner and I randomly went in here one night after moving into the neighborhood. The food is good - I had the crab omelette over rice with gravy, we shared a gyoza appetizer, and my partner had the Hong Kong style fired rice (which is like a seafood fried rice in a clear gravy). The prices are all quite reasonable, and I recall the menu had names or descriptions in English. The place is small and was super crowded when we went - one caveat - people are allowed to smoke and it is full of business types who are grabbing food and a drink after getting off work. The atmosphere is not for everyone, my partner didn't care for the cigarette smoke. It's worth a try if you're in Akasaka given the price and quality of the flavor, but just be mindful of the environment.

An affordable neighborhood-Chinese lunch in Akasaka When I ate here before, I think it was hiyashi chuka my memory is that it was ordinary but since it was a hot summer day the nearly clear oolong tea was weak with a nice slight aroma, and tasty. This time too, just as I remembered, the slightly weak, slightly fragrant oolong tea you want to gulp down in summer. On the tray that was brought out: happosai with rice and egg soup, zha cai and almond tofu, the rough feel of it is a slightly authentic neighborhood-Chinese style. Big shrimp, squid, carrots cut in large chunks, baby corn, mushrooms, a few snow peas maybe for color, and one quail egg, a slightly brownish sauce, maybe soy sauce and oyster sauce, with a solid flavor, more like a slightly school-lunch kind of tasty than authentic Chinese. The lunch situation around here lately: 1200円 is normal and a luxury lunch is 1500円 compared with a quite reasonable 1000円 lunch, lunch at Hong Kong Rou is mostly 850円 to 900円 affordable yet with good volume which is a real joy if you think about eating it every day. Happosai ¥900ー

It was better than I expected❣️ I was walking to a different restaurant, but it was like "Let's just go here⁉️", so I went in for the first time. I went in around 19:00 on a weekday, and the place was nearly empty, with just someone who looked like a business traveler eating a set meal. I thought "Uh-oh, is this bad〜", but there was no turning back. I ordered a few things, including gyoza, which seemed to be a staple. The interior was neat and clean, clearly run by Chinese people, and the staff were all Chinese too. First the gyoza came out and I ate it. The skin was chewy and the filling had plump shrimp, tastier than I imagined. The other dishes were also adapted for Japanese tastes and were delicious❣️ Above all, I could smoke without worrying, so the drinks went down easily and it was comfortable. If I have a chance to be nearby again, I'll stop by. Thank you for the meal.
