I stopped by around 6 PM on a weekday and was the only patron. The restaurant has over 10 seats, with local radio playing in the background. Initially, the decor and menu felt more like an izakaya, but the focus is clearly on ramen. Orders are made directly to the friendly, personable, and efficient staff rather than through a vending machine. I ordered the chashu-men and the chashu gohan for JPY 2,000. You can select the firmness of your noodles, which I appreciated. The chashu-men was impressive, with a bowl ringed by chashu and topped with crunchy bits that provided a perfect textural contrast. The broth is a tonkotsu base, and the table is well-stocked with condiments like minced garlic, shichimi, and karashina (spicy pickled takana), which is a personal favorite. The rice bowl came with large chunks of pork; while they could have been cut into smaller pieces for easier eating, it was overall a great meal. This is a high-quality, quick bite in Azabujuban, especially convenient given it stays open until 3 AM.
View on GoogleThis should be 0 stars. It's a place I've been coming to for 15 years. And teh service i get is pure racsim; a (japanese) person who arrived well after me got the menu. I didn't get the menu, sat there for several minutes without being asked to order. The staff just smiled. Ignoredmy presence. Refused to serve me. I wasn't rude. I was polite, spoke Japanese, say down and waited. Like I usually do. Never going there again. Yet anotber racist joint. Don't go there. Staff are trained to treat foreigners (who speak Japanese) like trash
View on GoogleI stopped in at this place on my way home from work to try kurume style ramen, and I was not impressed. The shop had the signature tonkotsu smell. I ordered the negi chashu, which came loaded with green onions, perhaps too much. The noodles were the thin noodles expected of tonkotsu style, and I didn't have any problems with them. The pork was very flimsy and didnt have much flavor. It could be significantly improved by using a different cooking method. The broth was the typical creamy tonkotsu style, but again lacked flavor. The saving grace was the garlic paste I added which made the broth taste like gyoza, but it's a bad sign if the dish needs garlic to over power the original flavor. I was very surprised at all of the celebrity signatures on the walls, as I didn't think this place warranted a famous reputation. On top of everything, the chef made me move to a corner seat at the counter even though I was the only one in the shop, which I felt was odd.
View on GoogleAs the restaurant name indicates, Ganso Kurume Ramen Fukuya specializes in Kyushu style ramen from Kurume. Kyushu style ramen is known to have thick pork broth (Tonkotsu) and thin ramen noodles and this place serves ramen that features these characteristics. I had never had Kurume style ramen until I came here, but it seems like the Tonkotsu soup is not as thick as the soup in other Kyushu style ramen places from Fukuoka such as those from Ippudo or Ichiran. The Tonkotsu soup was less heavy and had a hint of soy sauce. Most Kyushu style ramen is a little too heavy for me so I thought the soup here was just right. However, I prefer ramen with thick noodles so I guess Kurume style ramen is not one of my favorite styles of ramen. It’s not that this place did anything wrong since I’m sure their ramen would be considered good ramen to those who actually like the Kurume and Kyushu-style ramen so in the end it’s more about preference. I just prefer the Hokkaido style ramen with miso soup and thick noodles. What I liked about this place was that while it is a hole in a wall kind of place, it is more spacious than it had looked from the outside. Most ramen places only have counter seats, but this place had a decent number of tables. The service was also fast and efficient.
View on GoogleVery causal place and overall quality very good. However size of portion a bit small. Very tasty Tonkotsu Ramen with roasted pork and you can choose the hardness level of Ramen if you want (I was fine with “normal” / futsu)
