It's located in front of the Tokyo Port Construction Office. The Tokyo Monorail runs directly overhead. Built in October Taisho 15 (1926). Manufactured using the cutting-edge technology of the time. Steam-powered. Used as a tugboat. Decommissioned in March Showa 49 (1974). Its current state of preservation is quite miserable. I hope it gets thoroughly restored once and preserved for future generations.
View on GoogleCompleted in Taisho 15, 1926. Removed from the register in Showa 49, 1974. The fact that it's a reciprocating-engine ship, that it played an active role for a long time in dredging work at Tokyo Port, and that it wasn't scrapped but survived all the way into the Reiwa era, is wonderful. I don't know whether the equipment from back then is still attached as it was, but what caught my personal attention is that the bow uses a rope-woven fender and the stern uses a cylindrical rubber fender. The riveted construction is lovely.
View on GoogleThis ship is a steamship built in Taisho 15 (1926), when land reclamation at Tokyo Port was being actively carried out. Its purpose was to tow the ships that carried earth and sand used for reclamation (soil carriers/barges), i.e. it was a towing ship (tug/tugboat). New discovery: so there was reclamation work going on even back in the Taisho era 💡 With good timing, the monorail passed by too.

View on GoogleFrom the Konan Exit plaza of Shinagawa Station on the JR Tokaido Main Line, take the road on the left and head right toward Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, go past the university and continue straight until you come out onto Kaigan-dori directly beneath the Shuto Expressway Haneda Line, cross the Konan Shogakko-mae intersection and continue straight to the left; this museum ship is in front of the Tokyo Port Construction Office. It's about a 20-minute walk from the station. According to the description, it's a steamship built in Taisho 15 that was used as a tugboat and apparently remained in service until its retirement in March Showa 49. You can't tour the inside, but if you go down the stairs on the right in front of the Tokyo Port Construction Office, there's another staircase going down on the right, and you can see the propeller up close.
