Drawn by the retro exterior, I went in on impulse. The A set I ordered was a plate of fried shrimp, croquette, and ginger pork! Rice and potage included. It really was a very generous portion. The seasoning was quite strong too. Although it's in an office district, hungry high schoolers returning from club activities would probably love it. I was pleased that the shrimp were fried thoroughly right to the tails, so every bit could be eaten crispy, and the croquette was a cream croquette. As I was leaving, I spoke with the lady owner. Apparently it opened after the war and has been running for over 70 years, and she's the second generation, born just after the war. The name Volume apparently expressed the wish for people left hungry in the postwar turmoil to eat plenty. A lovely restaurant with a meaningful story.
View on GoogleFor lunch today I finally ventured into “Volume,” a place I'd been curious about ever since my workplace moved to Toranomon. Only middle-aged guys among the customers lol, zero women lolol It seems to be run by an elderly couple and a lady who looks like she's helping out, 3 people in all. I ordered the A lunch (fried shrimp, croquette, ginger pork (with soup)). I heard another customer mention a curry topping and immediately added that too. The soup came first. The lady serving was kind and observant; her movements weren't fast, but they were precise and put me at ease. The soup was a potage with assorted vegetables. Such a gentle flavor. Then came the rice with curry topping. I expected just a little curry, but it was poured all over the top lol After that came the main plate of fried shrimp, croquette, and ginger pork. Definitely a generous portion. The croquette was a cream croquette, which I'm not usually keen on, but it was delicious. The fried shrimp were springy and extremely tasty. The ginger pork leaned a little sweet, but had the kind of flavor middle-aged guys would like lol Wow, so satisfying〜 I should've come sooner lol I wanted to come at night too! Then found out they're only open for lunch!? Amazing! My first great find in a while. Maybe I'll have the katsu curry next time〜
View on GoogleA neighborhood yoshoku restaurant. The interior has a Showa-era feel. I ordered katsu curry for 800円, with clam chowder soup. When I asked, “What can be made quickly?” they said everything was quick. Quite a few people were eating katsu curry, so I ordered it. Sure enough, it arrived in under 5 minutes. Fast! True to the restaurant's name, the portion is generous. A little too much for a guy over 50. The curry is neither sweet nor spicy. Somehow it had a nostalgic taste, like something I'd eaten long ago.
View on GoogleToranomon Lunch 25 “The only restaurant in Toranomon with no queue!” A place I gave only 1 star★ 2 and a half years ago. Both the restaurant and its prices remain in the Showa era, practically ignoring prices in the surrounding area. The C lunch at ¥800- includes slightly salty potage, a cheese hamburger steak, fried shrimp, and sausage—an even nicer price than a family restaurant. This time I noticed a very senior elderly chef at the back. I savored the meal wondering how much longer this place would be around〜! Thank you for the meal. 201912 “A yoshoku restaurant as comfortable as sweats” Today's A lunch ¥1000- fried shrimp, croquette, ginger pork (with potage) A home-style yoshoku restaurant run by 3 considerably older ladies, chatting away happily together. The fried items are piping hot, and the ginger pork perhaps lightly stir-fried then simmered? Meat with a thick, very sweeeet seasoning. Season the fried food as you like with the salt, pepper, sauce, and mayonnaise on the table! 201703
View on GoogleTrue to the name, the main dishes were generously portioned. The rice is a regular portion, but refills are free. You can get in without queuing, which is helpful when you're in a hurry at lunch! The taste is decent, and considering the portions, it's good value.
