Takeshiba Pier I've taken the night-departure boat to Oshima several times, but coming to Takeshiba Pier during the day... it's deserted. I came because I wanted Izu Oshima's bekko sushi. Terminal, 1st floor A white noren curtain with a ship logo and bekko sushi lettering BEKKOU ZUSI Open weekdays only. Opening hours are 11:30~15:00 (last order 14:30). Even if I missed last order... maybe I could buy bekko sushi to take away? That's what I thought when I went. The takeaway was sold out. Too optimistic.(>_<) I ate inside. Order and pay at the counter, and they bring it to your table. Bekko sushi and vegetable pot-au-feu 1000 yen I thought I didn't need the vegetable pot-au-feu... but once I tried it, it was outstanding! Packed with vegetables and seriously delicious. I want to make something like this♪ The mini tomato tempura was delicious too... freshly fried, retaining the tomato flavor, and lovely with salt. Bekko sushi Bite-size sushi made with local fish marinated in island chili peppers and soy sauce. It's called bekko sushi because it turns a tortoiseshell color. It's wrapped in ashitaba. Lightly seasoned. I love this sort of thing♪ The little turtle-shaped dish served separately probably holds curry powder to change the flavor of the pot-au-feu... but I want that dish! I recommend the bekko sushi♪ If you go early, there's takeaway too.
View on GoogleThe restaurant is alongside the boat ticket counter, across the passageway. Since it's called bekko sushi, I thought, huh? They made hawksbill sea turtle sushiΣ(・∀・;)!? Apparently not... My first time eating bekko sushi. Didn't there used to be something like a cafeteria here? It feels like trendy Japanese food lol Quite tasty(・∀・)♪ Different from vinegar-cured sushi, more like surprisingly fresh marinated fish? The leaf wrapped around it looks like mitsuba, but is this ashitaba? As for the vegetable pot-au-feu in the set, I think they explained what the stock was when they brought it over, but I forgot while eating lol More a clear soup packed with ingredients than a pot-au-feu. A refined flavor. Since it's the Izu Islands, perhaps they use flying fish stock? Next time I'd like the fried rice (apparently you can order a large portion), but the opening hours really are too limited to visit easily lol Even more than that, it's somewhere I hardly ever come lol
View on GoogleAs I passed the restaurant, I noticed a ramen sign that looked appetizing, so I stopped. Looking through the glass, I hesitated briefly because it was a sushi restaurant with no customers in sight, but it seemed open, so I went in. No staff member came out. You order at the counter and then take a seat. The ramen arrived looking almost exactly like the photo. The fish-stock broth was light, just how I like it, and gentle on the stomach. Simple, but the condiments let me enjoy changing the flavor.
View on GoogleWalkable from Daimon Station. It's inside the terminal, and the bekko sushi is available in limited quantities. It comes with a soup made from 20 ingredients and tomato tempura for 1000 yen. A sufficient portion for women. The woman serving is lovely. I'd like to return.
View on GoogleIt's inside Tokyo Ai-land. They offer a bekko sushi and vegetable pot-au-feu set, a bekko fried rice and aromatic pot-au-feu set, seafood-stock ramen, and more. The bekko sushi resembles 'shima sushi,' a specialty of the islands accessible by boats departing from Tokyo Ai-land, but it's something completely different. The flavors here are gentle overall. I think it's delicious. However, the menu is small, so you might get bored if you visit often. They also sell bekko sushi to take home as a souvenir.
