Visited for lunch on a weekday. A Showa-retro izakaya in the basement of a building along a narrow alley connecting 赤坂見附 Station to the street in front of 赤坂 Station. This time I ordered the マグロ漬け丼定食 set meal (900 yen). This price in 赤坂, and it even comes with coffee—what a treat^^ The lean tuna has a lovely savory flavor and is coated in a secret sauce. Delicious★ The rice is also sweetly seasoned with gari, and the little bit of avocado on top did its job nicely too^^
View on GoogleThe restaurant is in the basement beneath タイラーメン in an 赤坂 back alley. I ended up here while wandering around looking for lunch without a plan, so I hadn't specifically set out to visit. There's one person in the kitchen and one handling the dining area, so things take a little time when it's busy. Still, despite being in a back-alley basement, they had customers. You just don't find a large serving of Japanese-style mushroom pasta for 800 yen in 赤坂. The dashi in the pasta sauce gave it a lovely, deeply nourishing flavor. I think the reason it makes me want to return comes down entirely to how lovely the people are. It felt like a restaurant I wouldn't want to lose. There aren't many places where you hear someone calling thank you from the kitchen as you leave after paying. Thank you for the meal. I'll definitely be back.
View on GoogleAn izakaya styled with a Showa-era retro feel. It seems smoking used to be allowed, but smoking indoors is now prohibited under Tokyo regulations. Lunch prices are fairly low, and large portions are free. The menu offers set meals, rice bowls, and spaghetti. Spaghetti comes in 3 sizes at no extra charge: regular, large, and extra-large. Apparently regular is 200g, large 280g, and extra-large 360g. I had the Showa-style Napolitan, but it was just ordinary Napolitan. If you arrive after 12:30, you get complimentary coffee, so I'd recommend a later lunch.
View on GoogleShowa retro? Managed to travel back in time Thaaanks Only 3 pieces of offal in the offal stew Cabbage mixed with 昆布長, 330 yen Two prices for the same seared cured-mackerel dish on the same menu Quiet with no customers The place stinks of cigarette smoke Is that what makes it Showa?
View on GoogleA Showa-retro izakaya. Lunch is around 800 yen. Large portions of rice or pasta and the like are free. After 12:30, it comes with coffee or orange juice. I thought it was comfortable and easy to have a conversation in.
