This seafood set meal is a truly satisfying and well-crafted Japanese feast. The sashimi platter stands out with its freshness and generous cuts — the salmon is buttery and rich, the tuna firm and flavorful, and the sweet shrimp adds a delicate sweetness that lingers pleasantly on the palate. The simmered fish and daikon are perfectly seasoned; the broth is rich but not overpowering, enhancing the tender texture of the fish and the melt-in-your-mouth softness of the radish. The side dishes are thoughtfully arranged — the tamagoyaki is soft and lightly sweet, the burdock root adds a crisp, savory contrast, and the greens bring a refreshing balance to the meal. The miso soup is hearty with a deep soybean aroma, pairing beautifully with the warm bowl of rice. Overall, this seafood set strikes an excellent balance between freshness, flavor, and comfort. It reflects both the chef’s respect for quality ingredients and the comforting warmth of home-style Japanese cuisine.

Kue" is a Japanese restaurant located very close to the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Unlike other tourist areas in Tokyo (such as Ueno, Ginza, Roppongi, Shibuya), this area doesn’t have many restaurants targeting foreigners. If you're not familiar with Japanese cuisine or don't speak Japanese, finding a place to eat lunch when visiting this university can be quite challenging. Kue is also not particularly foreigner-friendly. The food here—sashimi set meals, braised fish, fried horse mackerel, pork cutlet, and more—is thoroughly Japanese. In the evening, it operates as an izakaya (a Japanese pub), while at lunch, it offers set menus that include rice, soup, some small dishes, and a main dish. However, I dare say that the food here won't feel too unfamiliar to foreigners, including Westerners. Additionally, the quality of the food is excellent. I had the fried horse mackerel set. If you want to make a good impression on the staff, try saying "aji furai"—that’s the Japanese term for it. For Japanese people, aji furai is one of the most common home-cooked meals. If you want to gain a deeper understanding of Japanese food culture, this is a great choice. If I ever visit this university again, I will definitely come back here.

Very nice, family-run place with good sized portions and excellent quality. The price is a bit higher than most lunch places, but you definitely get what you pay for. A small warning that the menu is all Japanese and kanji so show one of the photos from the reviews or just all for something. I had the tonkatsu set which came fresh from the fryer and was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a nice set of small sides as well as salad, soup and rice. Also refills of rice and soup are free. The couple running the restaurant was also as friendly as the food was tasty.

This is the very best (secret) restaurant to get fish (especially sashimi) in the Ookayama area. The slices of sashimi are thick and excellent selections, fresh from the wholesale fish market. The cooked dishes are also excellent, they do everything at a very high level: soups, stewed fish, tempura, and I once even ate one of the best tonkatsu pieces in my life at this place. It is a family restaurant, the mom, pop, and their son. It is beautiful. The atmosphere is relaxed and like going to a home as a welcome guest. This is one of the best secrets in Meguro-ku.
