View on GoogleI love Akira's food. I've been going to his restaurants every time I come visit Japan in the last decade. I had such a wonderful time there again. Just tell him your budget and he'll cook awesome and serve wine with it.

View on GoogleI visited Bistro 13-ku in Nakameguro. The restaurant's concept is, quite simply, “inefficient cooking.” Deliberately going against today's calls for efficiency, this bistro devotes time and effort to serving truly delicious food, conveying the chef's extraordinary passion and pride. Every menu item is tempting and makes choosing difficult, but this time I ordered the following. First, homemade ham, white-liver pâté, and carpaccio as starters. The more you chew the homemade ham, the more its meaty umami gently spreads, while the white-liver pâté has no unpleasant smell whatsoever and is astonishingly smooth and rich. Along with the fresh carpaccio, these pair well with whole-wheat bread and unsalted butter. I recommend spreading plenty of pâté on the bread with its robust wheat aroma. The colorful, generously portioned Niçoise salad also goes well with its delicious dressing. Escargots baked in herb butter are a bistro classic. The enticing aroma of herbs and garlic was irresistible, and naturally I soaked up every bit of the flavor-infused oil with the accompanying baguette. The shirasu and aonori omelet releases a soft, melty sensation and a waft of the sea the moment your knife goes in. The cooking was wonderfully precise, and the ingredients complemented each other beautifully. Then the main dish: thick-cut sautéed Tengen pork. The Tengen pork loin and generously piled vegetables made for an impressive portion! The pork was moist and tender, with an elegant sweetness to its fat. The vegetables were intensely flavorful and substantial too. True to the concept, every plate strongly conveys careful work without a single shortcut. I felt the chef's desire for people to eat their fill of delicious food without chemical seasonings. If you are looking for a delicious bistro in Nakameguro, this is unquestionably one I recommend.
