It was an old-fashioned Japanese soba shop. Two of us went there for lunch. We ordered the lunch set that came with soba, vegetable tempura, shrimp tempura nori rolls, tamagoyaki with green onions, itawasa, and a small side dish, plus a hot soba topped with shrimp tempura. The soba was tasty, and the broth was good too. The tempura was also delicious. The staff were attentive and pleasant. With warm oshibori and green tea, it's a place that puts you at ease. There are about 5 parking spaces in front of the shop. Even though it's close to the station, it's spacious. Next time I'd like to try the katsudon.

It feels like an ordinary soba shop, but it's different from how it looks. The soba is domestic, probably machine-made, but it's cut cleanly, pretty high-level, and good quality. The broth is a light sweet-salty style that really suits native Tokyoites. It's served properly piping hot, too. The curry nanban and such are also real gems. The katsudon also uses good-quality pork, a pretty decent old-fashioned katsu. However, the flavor is weak, kind of consommé-like or salty, and there's a lot of sauce. For us locals, the standard katsudon has a rich sweet-salty sauce, just a little of it soaking into the rice. As for the rice bowls, if they improved the donburi sauce, the lifeblood of a long-established soba shop, there'd be nothing left to complain about.

I ordered ten zaru and hadn't even drunk the sobayu yet, but the floor staff member, maybe out of impatience, said "May I clear this?" and took it away. At checkout, they hurriedly grabbed the bill from the table, snatched the 10,000-yen note I was holding, and said "Out of 10,000 yen, is that right?" Unbelievable. I'm never going again. The service is way too bad.

Soba: ordinary. Batter: ordinary. Tempura: ordinary. The salt for dipping the tempura: ordinary. Katsudon: below ordinary. The egg was all soggy. I went with high hopes after reading the reviews, but it was just an ordinary, somewhat pricey soba shop. I wonder if people in Machida have never eaten at a really good soba shop..
