Mainly displays Jomon pottery. It's a small museum, but the exhibits are all superb pieces representative of Machida City. Due to space constraints, the number of items felt a little lacking. Opening days are limited, so check the city website. It's near Obirin Gakuen, with a lovely natural setting, so why not drop by during a walk?
View on GoogleThe facility's exhibition room shows only archaeological materials and is about half the size of a classroom. For detailed explanations of the exhibits, it seems you have to read the book that's provided. The explanatory text for the exhibits is a bit sparse. Note that opening days are limited. Though compact, it has some interesting exhibits. Please drop by when you're nearby. <A request to Machida City> In Machida City, the Freedom and People's Rights Movement Museum, the (former) museum, and this facility are all scattered in different locations, making getting around very inconvenient. If you want citizens to learn about local history, I think you need a facility where everything can be seen comprehensively, including the medieval Oyamada clan, the Bakumatsu period, and the era of large-scale housing complex development. It would also be good to occasionally hold traveling exhibits in a space on the 1st floor or another floor of the main city hall. Compared to the museums of Sagamihara City, Fuchu City, Kunitachi City, and others, Machida City's offerings are poor overall.
View on GoogleMachida City in Tokyo apparently has many excavated Jomon sites, and some of the excavated items are on public display here. Since it's a small exhibition space, the exhibits must be carefully selected—every one of them is worth seeing. Being open only on weekends and having no nearby station are inconvenient, but it's truly important that a public facility handles archaeological relics like these! Free admission, and photos are OK ♪
View on GoogleMakkuu, Machida City's Jomon dogū, is on display. It's not easy to get to by public transport, but it's worth going. It's open on weekends, so please check before you visit.
View on GoogleThis isn't an exhibition hall for archaeological materials; it was built for the purpose of preservation. So the permanent exhibition is minimal. Even so, you can enjoy it plenty.
