旧白洲邸 武相荘Buaiso
Japanese arts & crafts on display in the traditional, thatched-roof home of a post-WWII bureaucrat.
Buaiso, the former residence of Jiro Shirasu and Masako Shirasu. Centered on the thatched-roof main house, the spacious grounds, still surrounded by greenery just as they were back then, contain a museum, a restaurant, and a shop selling antiques and carefully selected everyday tableware. A wide variety of events are held, starting with the antique market twice a year. Past events have included wine gatherings, concerts, mini-theater film screenings, antique study sessions, pottery classes, and Noh study sessions. In the garage, the classic car PAIGE (same model) that Jiro rode in his middle school days is on permanent display, and in the museum, which was once their home, you can catch a glimpse of the couple's life.

Really interesting glimpse into the residence of a government official who helped transition Japan from war time government into democracy. Also a restaurant and a little gallery / bar.
View on GoogleNicely charming home of Jiro Shirasu turned into a small museum. It’s a beautiful thatch roofed home with a cafe that offers dining in a high ceiling room where you can relax and enjoy a view of the garden.
View on GoogleA self-claimed "country gentleman" Jiro Shirasu purchased this place in 1942, now open to public with many of his original possessions in display. The house (museum) is very well maintained and its history well explained (in Japanese). It also has a restaurant which serves curry based on Mrs Shirasu's original recipe (lunch only). It is a bit hard to find but is located in the middle of a quiet residential area.
View on GoogleA hidden gem restaurant. Not in easy-walking distance from train stations around there but can enjoy traditional Japanese western meals called “Yoshoku”. Although price is higher than standard around the neighborhood, it really worthwhile. The atmosphere is great. It is clean and surrounded by greens. There are parking lots available but it is a bit hard to find the location of the parking. Definitely will go back there. Love it so much.
