It's not that easy for foreigner to communicate with the owner until a Japansese customer helped us. The fried rice seems much better than the other dishes since its unique taste.

View on GoogleVisited 「庄助」, a long-established yakitori restaurant loved for years in 門前仲町. It appeared in the memorable 第1 episode of 『孤独のグルメ』Season1, so it's a place I'd wanted to visit for a long time. Beyond the red lantern, the interior is lined with celebrity autographs. The atmosphere of an old-fashioned downtown tavern remains intact, giving even a first visit a nostalgic feel. We started with a toast over bottled 一番搾り. The freshly grilled yakitori was delicious, of course, but the signature 信玄袋 stood out. The fragrant grilled fried-tofu pouch was packed with fillings and paired wonderfully with drinks. Another specialty is eating tsukune on raw green pepper. The crisp pepper and juicy tsukune were a perfect match. Simple, yet addictively delicious. They also have classic drinking snacks like kombu sashimi and rakkyo, which kept the drinks flowing. This restaurant relies on the flavors and atmosphere it has built over many years rather than flashiness. A wonderful place to enjoy delicious yakitori and the warmth of old downtown while soaking up the world of the drama. Thank you for the meal. I'd love to visit again.

The exterior looked inviting, so I looked it up and found it was featured in episode 1 of season 1 of 孤独のグルメ. That explains it. I tried dropping by a few times afterward, but it was always full. Finally made my first visit this time. When I opened the door around 19:30 on a weekday, there were 2,3 counter seats free. It was full by 20:00. Quite a few seats were free at 20:30. So it really comes down to timing. Inside, there are 6-7 counter seats with a fairly high partition and several tables for 4. The menu is posted on the walls, so from the counter, you order while looking directly behind you. They suggest a few things, saying, “The skewers take time, so we recommend these~” The atmosphere is pure old downtown! Overall, it feels a bit intimidating, but the drinks aren't super cheap in return or anything, you can feel the rising ingredient costs, haha. There were some interesting dishes like simmered hearts and liver, but unfortunately the yakitori was bitter from being grilled over too high a heat. Thank you for the meal. __________________ 【Today's order】 ⚫︎なすの煮浸し ⚫︎ハツレバー煮 Noticeable sansho flavor ⚫︎つくねピーマン 3 tsukune and 3 green peppers. Put the tsukune on the pepper and mash it, then season with ichimi or shichimi to eat. The tsukune is lightly salted, so I recommend ichimi ⚫︎ねぎま Large pieces. Charred over very high heat. ⚫︎皮 Very crispy and heavily salted. ⚫︎オムレツ コンビーフ Only this had a large portion The eggs are lightly seasoned The corned beef is delicious ⚫︎酎ハイ ⚫︎角ハイボール __________________ 【Today's restaurant】 ■ 庄助(yakitori) ■ 3-minute walk from 門前仲町 Station /closed Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays / ¥4,655
View on GoogleI happened to walk in without knowing it was a popular restaurant, but everything I ate was truly delicious. The staff's service was lovely, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Next time I'd like to make a reservation and visit again.
