Famous Seafood Spot in Monzennakacho – Great Food but Lacking Service This seafood restaurant in Monzennakacho is incredibly popular, and for good reason. People come from all over the city just to eat here, and there’s always a line in front of the place. Without waiting, getting a seat is nearly impossible, but thankfully, the queue moves quickly. We visited on a Friday night, arriving around 8:00 PM, and after just 15 minutes, we were able to enter. Inside, the atmosphere is decent, but unfortunately, the service is terrible. Our waiter was not friendly at all —so much so that it seemed intentional, as if it was part of the restaurant’s concept rather than personal. The food, however, was very good. Every dish we ordered was perfectly prepared and delicious—except for the tuna sashimi, which was still frozen when it arrived at our table. We had to wait around 30 minutes for it to thaw before we could even eat it, which was quite disappointing. If not for that, the food would have easily deserved five stars. Overall, while the poor service brings down the experience, the food and unbeatable prices make it worth a visit. We paid just 5,000 yen for two people and left completely full. If you don’t mind indifferent service, this is a great spot for high-quality seafood at a fantastic price.

The restaurant is underrated on Google, yet does not need your patronage. From my 1000’s of restaurant meals for taste and value in the top 5. Fodor (the definitive food guide by experts) “ Wherever you sit, the focus is mostly on seafood, with the fresh cuts of sashimi (of whatever fish is sourced that day), especially good when paired with one of the sakes on the menu” … The locals kept ordering dish after dish of sushi or cooked fish, and Sake or Beer, enjoying the ambience and incredibly organized service. Arriving at 16:30, only a few spare seats, the locals kept on coming in. Don’t expect grandeur, appreciate Japanese hospitality and food at its best!! The price will astound you.

Super local place and very popular. They have three floors and were almost full by 4:30 ( they open at 4). Found a tatami seat on 3rd floor. My Japanese friend ordered for me. You write in a paper the dishes and hand over to them. Lot of tempura and sea food dishes (no meat dishes). Real authentic izakaya experience. They don’t have an English menu. Huge beer for 700 yen. Cheap and the bill was just around 5000 after ordering 12-13 dishes soft roe, sweet shrimp, fried oysters, many types of tuna, etc with beers. Fresh soft roe (milt) was so creamy and fresh.

Absolutely great food for incredible value. We were 4 people and spent ¥9,500 (£50) for a very good meal. The fish selection is absolutely top notch. The only thing to point out is that we did go here with a Japanese friend and he ordered everything for us—it would have been a bit tougher otherwise.

The atmosphere and ambiance of this small izakaya is really something special. Where in a lot of restaurants, narrow seating around a central aisle might be something of a drawback, here it is a wonderful feature that makes eating and chatting a lot more intimate and fun. Another highlight is not only the sashimi and fish dishes, but also the small side dishes which are prepared with a lot of care and attention. Ask for the local favorites and recommendations and you will be presently surprised :)
