This is the "Gohonmatsu" (Five Pines) on the Tama River embankment in Komae City. For some reason, Google Maps currently shows its location here (lol). It used to be properly located on the embankment. This spot currently on Google Maps… is someone's house, you know…. Well… shall I write a review of this historic site (or rather, something treated as a nature park) whose location will probably change again soon? Might be pointless though (lol). The Komae Gohonmatsu are actually five pine trees standing on the bank of the Tama River. Their age is unknown. By the way, it was apparently a row of cherry trees until the Meiji era, so the pines were probably planted sometime between the Meiji and Taisho eras. That would make them a little over 100 years old, I guess. I don't really know. This "Komae Gohonmatsu" is one of the 50 Views of the Tama River and also one of the New 100 Views of Tokyo. But… it's just five pine trees standing there. By the way, it seems to be often used as a filming location for movies and dramas. Also in manga (apparently there's a delinquent manga? set in Komae, and this spot shows up in it frequently. Pretty local, huh…) Well… feel free to wander by if you're in the area for something else. Like on your way to the embankment with a packed lunch. Or for fishing. Let's go there to zone out.
