Delicious noodle shop! The chef helped me figure out the ticket machine as I do not speak Japanese, she was very kind.

The best Udon in Tokyo! The owner is an old kind man and the food quality and portions are so satisfactory. Whenever I go there the owner gives me one extra Tepmura! Believe me it is so rare in Japan based on my experience after 4 years living in Japan. Highly recommended for people who like Udon and Soba with Tempura at a local restaurant.

2025.12 Went to Shirakaba at the north exit of Musashi-Koganei Station. I didn't expect to end 2025 at the standing soba shop Shirakaba, but a poster outside the shop I saw while passing by caught my attention, so I pressed the ticket machine, and the result was a big win. ◆Cold Tororo Yamakake Soba (¥700) What I ordered was "Tororo Yamakake," which seems to be everywhere, but I don't remember seeing it at Shirakaba before. Since it's winter, I could have ordered a hot one, but I deliberately tried a cold one. The noodles, boiled according to Shirakaba's usual procedure, were chilled in two stages, put into a bowl, poured with cold dashi, and topped with tororo, okra, onsen egg, green onions, and tenkasu, then finished with green nori and bonito flakes. I have never seen a menu with this level of multi-layered effort at Shirakaba, and that alone makes me happy, but what surprised me was the taste. The tororo is a pre-packaged product, but it's delicious enough, and its compatibility with the cold dashi this time is so outstanding that it made me smile involuntarily. Furthermore, I layer the flavors with bonito flakes, okra, onsen egg, tenkasu, and green onions, and each layer adds depth to the umami, it's truly delicious. I mean, in the last 20+ years, I have never eaten a bowl as delicious as this at Shirakaba, and I was deeply impressed. Of course, it doesn't mean that other soba and udon besides this one will be impressive, but at least the cold tororo yamakake is amazing. I feel like it's a seasonal menu, so I decided to revisit before it ends. (With all due respect, I never thought I would vow to revisit Shirakaba unless I had to. That's how well these toppings go with Shirakaba's dashi and soba.) ************************ 2019.10 Practical soba for those who return home late at night, I stopped by because there was a menu I didn't remember. ◆Butadon (¥580) Day 1 of my visit after a long time was a variation. A bowl of rice with sweet and salty stewed pork belly and crunchy sliced onions on top of white rice. The white rice is full size so it's quite voluminous, the image is not as a side menu but ordered alone. The side dishes are pickles and soup, but you can choose miso soup or soba soup, this time I chose soba soup. Recommended when you want a variation. ◆Mini Curry Bowl Set (¥570) On Day 2, I tried ordering the old classic. I could choose soba or udon for the noodles, so I chose soba. Regardless of the soba, the curry is thick and full of umami, a strong curry for adult men. If you are confused about the set accompaniment, please choose curry. That was Shirakaba after a long time. Regarding soba, there is an impression that they are not keeping up with the times, but I think the deliciousness of the rice dishes is really stable. You can stop by casually until late at night, so if you have the chance...

The shop is located behind a pachinko parlor at the north exit of Musashi-Koganei Station. A standing soba shop that isn't actually standing, used by a wide range of age groups. The style is to buy a meal ticket and hand it to the shop staff. Today, I had the mini tendon set (700 yen) including tax. The tempura was pre-fried. The soba was served after a long boiling time after the order was placed, so the tendon was served first. Honestly, the taste is neither good nor bad. The soba, maybe it's not that delicious? Before serving, I was asked if I wanted free tenkasu topping, so I asked for it. As for CP, in the standing soba genre, it's normal. Serving is surprisingly slow, so the impression was that the turnover rate is not very good. I am grateful, but I thought, wouldn't it be better if there were no chairs?
