Izakaya restaurant

A seafood izakaya conveniently located near the station, just a 1-minute walk from Higashi-Jujo's south exit. The owner carefully selects fresh seafood every morning, taking it straight from the live tank to prepare it. A particular highlight is the “whale cuisine.” Enjoy the distinctive flavor of whale in sashimi, tatsuta-age, and other dishes rarely found elsewhere. There are also exceptionally fresh specialties such as “marbled horse sashimi nigiri,” with melting fat and deep umami, and seafood rice bowls. The interior has a calm Japanese atmosphere, and private rooms with sunken kotatsu seating are ideal for business entertaining, family meals, and various banquets. Lunchtime offers generous, great-value set meals, while an omakase course with unlimited drinks is also recommended in the evening. Authentic flavors in Higashi-Jujo…

Visited after midday on a weekday. An izakaya run by a tough-looking owner. The menu is written on a signboard. Order verbally; cash payments only. Ordered the whale sashimi set meal. It arrived in about 15 minutes. It had been ages since I'd eaten whale. It brought back memories of having it as tatsuta-age in elementary school. Whale has a distinctive smell that seems to divide opinions. I liked it. Since it's a set meal, it comes with miso soup, rice, a small side dish, and even an apple. There was whale in the miso soup too. A dry texture. Despite his tough appearance, he checked whether my tea had run out. I thought it was a warmhearted place. Also, there are tons of cats. Nearby.

I originally planned to eat eel rice, but after going in, I discovered this place gets fresh catches delivered directly by fishermen. I was immediately drawn to the whale sashimi set meal(くじらお刺身定食)🤩 Instead of wasabi soy sauce, it came with garlic soy sauce~ Absolutely delicious😋 ⚫︎Work always brings different discoveries 🧐 ⚫︎Thank you for donating toward humane surgery for cats.❤️🙏🥰

We ordered premium sushi for 2, one serving each of whale sashimi, shirako, and simmered fish, and just 1 green tea highball between the 2 of us—and it came to 20600円! Shockingly overpriced lol Well, my girlfriend had picked the place, so although I honestly thought, no way… I didn't complain and left loads uneaten lol Honestly, everything tasted awful lol I was stunned by how terrible she is at choosing restaurants. This isn't a place that should be operating in Tokyo.

Every dish, including the sashimi, was delicious. It felt like another level, and I really enjoyed the drinks! I was very surprised by how good the whale sashimi was. Some cuts had a distinctive smell, but it's a flavor you rarely get to try. There were also some quite unusual alcoholic drinks, which were fun to enjoy. Just be careful not to drink too much. It really hit me afterward. The prices are on another level too, so it's not exactly great value. They were prices suited to delicious food. The draft beer tasted watery and wasn't good, so I switched to bottled beer from the second drink.

All the food items are listed on boards without prices. The drinks menu does show prices. I thought it would be rather gauche to ask the price of every single dish when ordering, and assumed “the bill surely won't be outrageously unreasonable,” so without checking prices I ordered “three kinds of whale sashimi,” “whale tatsuta-age,” “shirako with ponzu,” “simmered offal,” “fugu rice porridge” (I confirmed beforehand that this was 600円), “sea bream rice.” I was charged about 10,000円 for these 6 dishes (drinks extra). It was so much higher than expected that I wanted to check the breakdown and requested an itemized receipt, only to be told they didn't have one and asked whether a simple receipt would do. The seafood dishes, such as whale sashimi and shirako, were delicious, but the other dishes weren't anything special. They also served chawanmushi and fruit, so I assume a considerable cover charge was included, but the bill was simply too high. If you want a bill you can feel comfortable with, I think you're better off not going. I hope the restaurant posts its food prices to make billing transparent.
