Great compliment to the locomotive. This one, you can enter the cabin and even sit on the benches.
View on GoogleWhy is a Toden streetcar placed here? I don't really know. This Toden car was built in Showa 24. It seems to have operated until Showa 53.
View on GoogleThis visit was on October 2, 2025. It's a train (streetcar) built in 1949 that kept running on the Arakawa Line until 1978. Next to it there's also a preserved D51. Apparently 290 units of this 6000 series were built from 1947 to 1952, and along with the 800 series, they were the first newly built cars after the war. After a large number of Toden streetcars were lost in air raids during WW2, they must have been cars of hope. Today, the Toden Arakawa Line is actually the only Toden remaining in Japan.
View on GoogleTogether with the D51 steam locomotive next to it, it's a symbol of Asukayama Park. On weekends and holidays, it seems to become a perfect playground for kids. While the peeling paint on the surrounding objects and playground equipment stands out, the D51 and this Toden 6000 series seem to be relatively neatly painted. Also, all the side window glass has been removed so it's open to the wind, yet there was no noticeable dirt or dust on the wooden bench seats. I imagine it's kept in shape by the daily efforts of the management. This car ran on the Toden Arakawa Line until Showa 53. Thinking back on the scenery of those days, I headed home on a current Arakawa Line car.
View on GoogleAugust 2026 I stopped by during a regular walking club meetup. You can also look around inside.
