A traditional Japanese soba shop in Kameari that has been run for 3 generations; the interior has a somewhat nostalgic, calm atmosphere. Even alone, I could relax. The kenchin soba I ordered was a hearty bowl with taro, daikon, carrot, pork, aburaage, leafy greens, kamaboko and more. I could taste the aroma of the soba, but the texture was a bit on the soft side. The broth was milder in saltiness than it looked, light to drink. The portion felt just right for lunch. The medium bottle of Kirin Lager came with oshinko (pickles), so I could leisurely enjoy a drink while waiting for the soba. The food was served about 10 minutes after ordering, and the service was polite. The water being barley tea was also memorable. Lunch last order is 14:00, and payment is cash only.
View on GoogleA shop I'd been curious about for a long time. Popped in quickly just before noon. 4 customers already there; ordered right after sitting down. The S set negitoro don with cold soba. It came out in about 10 minutes. The half set had more food than I expected, just right for me. The taste is solidly that of a neighborhood soba shop. Little thoughtful touches like quietly setting down the dish for soy sauce for the negitoro don and the sobayu (soba cooking water), and refilling the barley tea, are nice too. Soba shops in front of the station where you can drink are rare, but the prices are also reasonable, which is great.
View on GoogleAround JR Joban Local Line's Kameari Station, where the restaurants are all chains, the Japanese soba shop 『寿々喜 (Suzuki)』 is fighting a lone battle, and on top of that operating in its own building—truly impressive... that's how I feel. I ordered the 「Kamo Seiro」 (850 yen tax included). What surprised me was that you can choose between warm and cold broth. I'd never had cold kamo seiro, so I thought about trying it, but this time I went orthodox with the warm dipping broth. That day it was extremely crowded, and perhaps also because there was an elderly couple doing the "daytime drinking at a soba shop" thing, I waited and waited. After waiting about 30 minutes (!), the kamo seiro finally arrived, and surprisingly again, the dipping broth and duck meat came served separately. The duck was the type sautéed with green onion, with about 5 thin slices of breast meat. I dove them into the warm broth right away. The soba was a bit overcooked and mushy, the noodles stuck together and were really hard to eat—a disappointing soba that definitely loses points. That said, overall I'd say it just barely passes.
View on GoogleUsed it for lunch. It's on the 2nd floor, up the stairs. With the craftsman-faced head chef in the background, a gentle-looking female staff member welcomed us. Besides the display menu in the 1st-floor show window, the lunch menu is also posted on the stairs. The soba is authentic, and even with the lunch set with a mini rice bowl, sobayu is served. There are also menu items like curry soba, and plenty of regular set meal options too. Even if you enter with soba on your mind, you might end up torn after seeing the menu inside. Though since the soba is delicious, I end up ordering the soba set after all.. I'd like to try the set meal menu sometime. Early at lunchtime, my impression is that there are relatively many elderly customers, and they're drinking beer. At night there's an izakaya menu, so next time I'd like to go both during the day and at night.
View on GoogleAn old-fashioned soba shop with a Showa-era feel. In the calm interior, you can eat soba with Kanto-style broth with a strong kaeshi. The rice bowls also have a solid seasoning, just what you'd expect from a soba shop's donburi. Thank you for the meal.
