In Kanamachi, there is a yakiniku restaurant with a slightly worn-out exterior that makes your heart feel relieved with "It's still open!". That is "Heiwaen". Even for a first-timer, the moment you open the door, a nostalgic atmosphere envelops you. The menu is oily and shiny, but even that stickiness is lovable. The tables and tatami mats feel retro as if you've traveled back in time from the Showa era. There's no fashionable feel at all. But, that's what's good about it! Well, the first things ordered were loin yakiniku and kalbi yakiniku. This, unexpectedly, is thick and truly delicious. If you grill it slowly, the meat becomes fluffy and soft. Every time you chew, the meat juices come out. A little surprised. I thought about whether I should have ordered the upper loin, but honestly, for this quality in this price range, it deserves applause. Kalbi also has a good balance of fat and sauce, to the point where you want to say "Upper kalbi? No need". What's worth mentioning is the salt menu. Tan (tongue) and Harami (skirt steak) are a direct hit with a strong saltiness! Tan that pops, Harami that is fluffy and light. Because the salt is strong, the rice doesn't stop and the sour (drink) decreases on its own. The junkiness of the sauce menu is also wonderful. Punching power that won't work without rice. The sweetness and fragrance of the sauce mix with the fat of the meat, and even the fragrant smoke feels like a dish. Kimchi, namul, and soups are also flawless. Egg soup has a gentle taste, tegtan soup is a bit spicy and is a good accent. Heiwaen has nothing to do with flashy luxury yakiniku. However, it is full of the joy of grilling meat and time that makes your heart feel relieved. On Saturday nights, local men grill meat while holding alcohol, and laughter crosses the tables. Yakiniku eaten in such a scene is more luxurious than any Michelin. Nostalgia and happiness that permeate every bite. This is the best yakiniku wonderland that exists beyond the junk.
View on GoogleLocated in the bustling bar alley of Kanamachi Station, "Heiwaen" is a long-established yakiniku restaurant that continues to maintain its old-fashioned atmosphere. Once you step into the shop, the fragrant aroma of meat grilled over charcoal along with the billowing smoke creates a Showa-era atmosphere. The shop's layout includes 3 tables for 4 people and 3 tatami tables, so it can accommodate various types of customers. There are no counter seats, but this actually gives it a unique flavor. Since the tables and tatami are narrow, it is recommended to eat quickly and go to a second place. Its biggest appeal is its surprisingly low price. The pricing is about half that of a general yakiniku restaurant. However, don't underestimate the meat quality just because it's cheap. They provide high-quality meat that is not inferior to famous shops, and the cost performance is outstanding. In particular, the juicy pork kalbi and the soft beef tongue are special dishes, and they continue to be loved by regulars. Service is minimal. This is so-called "salty service" (cold), but this is also the charm of an old-fashioned popular yakiniku restaurant. There is no excessive attention, you can enjoy yakiniku at your own pace. Rather, many regulars seem to find this rough atmosphere comfortable. What's interesting is the number of customers enjoying yakiniku alone. At the tables, you can often see office workers returning from work or local regulars silently grilling meat. The atmosphere that allows you to enter without hesitation even if you are alone is one of the charms of this shop. Also, on the tatami, you can see families or groups chatting happily, adding color to the shop's atmosphere. The balance between price, taste, and atmosphere is perfect, and for those looking for an old-fashioned yakiniku restaurant that is intentionally not sophisticated, this can be said to be a hidden gem. However, it may not be suitable for those who dislike smoke or noise. For those who want to enjoy authentic yakiniku at an affordable price in Kanamachi, or those who want to immerse themselves in the Showa retro atmosphere, this is a shop that must be visited. Since there are tables and tatami, the appeal is also that it can be chosen according to the usage situation.
View on GoogleI've been visiting for 20 years. After closing for a while and reopening, I definitely go every week. Usually alone. Draft beer x4, grilled garlic, changja, definitely eat that first then 2 servings of meat. The liver sashimi here was the best. 2 servings for 1 person. If I invite others, I will confirm if they can use the Japanese-style toilet before going.

View on GoogleThis is an old-fashioned yakiniku restaurant. Recommendations are Hatsu (heart), upper Mino, Tan (tongue), and upper Loin. If you want to order Kalbi, I think upper Loin is better. Hatsu will be delicious if you don't grill it too much. Beef tongue is thick-sliced and different from yakiniku restaurants that slice it thin. Drinks like Lemon High, like nearby bars, are made with a strong specification. For the finish, soups are recommended. Since they are bowl-sized, I think it's good to share.
