The place where Chiba Shusaku, founder of the "Genbukan", one of the three great dojos of Edo in the late Bakumatsu period, trained in his youth. This site was once home to the dojo of Asari Matashichirō Yoshinobu, a master swordsman from Matsudo who was active in the late Edo period. Intending to make the talented Chiba Shusaku his successor, Asari adopted him as a son-in-law by marrying him to his adopted daughter Aya (by blood, his niece), and Shusaku in turn took the name "Asari Mataichirō". Partway through, however, their views on swordsmanship began to diverge, and they parted ways.
