I was overwhelmed by the massive exhibition that you wouldn't imagine from the outside. Amazing! There are also workshops where you can choose several small shells to make cute magnets for about 500 yen. Not only do you make them, but the curator also gives professional explanations about the shells, so it's very educational. There was a nudibranch fair, and I could observe nudibranchs swimming in the aquarium. They were cute... Since it's combined with a community center-like facility, you can also go bowling. You can use gutter-less lanes, so it's kid-friendly.
View on GoogleI stopped by on a whim, but was surprised by the large amount of shell exhibits. If you have even a little interest, I want you to come and see it. There is also a restaurant inside the building, and there were some bento boxes that looked quite delicious.
View on GoogleI came to buy firewood (it was strange that I could buy it here), but I never expected to be able to go bowling on Oshima. I was very surprised by this unexpected complex facility. The price was reasonable, and I ended up playing 2 games before returning to Toshiki Campground. There are few lanes, but that gives it a special atmosphere you can't find elsewhere. I'd like to visit again when I come to Oshima.
View on Google2025/05/04. I used this for a family trip. I went by bus. Adults are 400 yen each, preschoolers are free. There are exhibition rooms on the first and second floors. Beautiful and rare shells from all over the world are lined up in the space. I'm not particularly into shells, but it was worth seeing and fun. Due to the bus schedule, I left in 1 hour, but 1 hour wasn't enough. You can also try shell craft workshops on the 2nd floor (500 yen).
View on GoogleThe number of exhibits is incredible. If you want to see it properly, it takes over an hour. The bus stop is on the right side after crossing the road from the building; both directions are at the same bus stop. I didn't know much about shells, but there were very strange and interesting ones. It was very meticulous and the display was beautiful. There are too many shells to see in a short time. There are also shells from Oshima. When I went, the lights were off, but when I spoke to the receptionist, they turned them on for me. Don't underestimate it just because it's an island. There seems to be an incredible collector. They are also sold near the reception. Nautilus 3,000 yen... The restaurant is also open, and although it's expensive, you can eat there.
