Many years have passed since it stopped operating. I look at it from nearby on my way to and from 不動の滝 and other places, thinking I’ll go in someday, and regretted not stopping by when I visited 乗蓮寺 about 10 years ago. Its exterior looks like a Japanese-style inn or an atmospheric kappo or ryotei restaurant, so it would be particularly interesting to foreign tourists. If you want a meal and a rest after visiting 乗蓮寺 or 不動の滝, there is one soba restaurant near 板橋美術館 and another near the junior high school, but on weekends they’re crowded and the waits are long. They’re also some distance apart and don’t compete, so I thought that if 萬吉禎 resumed business, even under the next generation, it would help people troubled by the waiting times.

On the afternoon of January 4, I came to this famous soba restaurant while visiting 東京大仏. It’s usually rarely crowded, but during the New Year period it was full. Since it’s family-run, they were overwhelmed with orders and clearing up, leaving finished bowls where they were. I played it safe and ordered tempura soba❗ Waited almost 30 minutes‥‥(>_<) What a pain❗The soba was okay, the price was high, but the portion was refined❗Small‼️Probably hard to justify returning.

I ordered lunch. A tendon and zaru soba set, with pickles. Since it’s summer, this stronger tendon sauce is about right. The soba is so thin it gets tangled (haha). Maybe because I was the first customer in? I thought the sobayu was plain hot water. After noon, when groups come in, handling customer turnover looks difficult. Perhaps going early or late is better?

大仏そば, near 東京大仏. It’s been there since over 30 years ago, when I worked nearby. From memory, it’s good. Good, but the portions are small. Still, I’m glad it continues to operate as before.

The previous soba restaurant relocated to 岩槻 in 埼玉, and this one opened afterward. The former restaurant suited my taste, but when I visited for the first time today, the seasoning. Had sweetness, and wasn’t to my taste. It looked beautiful. Maybe the soba is machine-made, it’s quite long? Well. If it suits your taste‼️I think it’s fine.
