I ordered a large 「もりうどん」, confronting the quality of the noodles themselves head-on. One slurp of the noodles as they arrived, and words were no longer needed. Remarkable elasticity, almost bouncing in the mouth, then the pleasure of sliding down the throat. Surely this is the 「noodle firmness」 Japanese people instinctively seek. Of course, for udon lovers, this substantial bite is what stirs the soul. Looking around, the place was lively with customers slurping the specialty 「カレー南蛮うどん」. The drifting aroma of dashi made me promise to return, thinking next time I'd try that too……. A bowl filled with authentic ingredients and an artisan's pride. The owner of 檜原村特産品販売所 ばんば, where I stopped for Grandma's handmade konnyaku, recommended this place. About 2 minutes from ばんば, they stop taking orders at 1:45 p.m., but kindly let me in just in time. I'd missed lunch, so it was a great help. I ordered nikujiru udon. It was delicious. Thank you. I'll visit again.
