There are Przewalski's horses here, a type of wild horse. This zoo is the only one in the country that exhibits them. They're also kept in large numbers even within this zoo. Each shows its own personality: some come relatively close, some graze on the grass outside the fence, some move around in pairs, and so on. They're supposedly a species distant enough from domestic horses to have a different number of chromosomes, but maybe because they're horses all the same, they somehow behave similarly.

Even so, it once went extinct in the wild, and now some of the descendants that had been kept in captivity have been reintroduced to the wild. Tama Zoological Park keeps a large number of them; their coats are beautiful, and compared to Thoroughbreds they're smaller and stockier, which is adorable. In Japan, they're kept here and at Zoorasia zoo.
