Old traditional Japanese tofu restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere with a great view to its garden. Like Japanese grandma's house. Worth coming back. If you are around its a must. 9 course tofu meal will set you back 3000 yen.

My mom spotted a sign for tofu cuisine and said she wanted to go, so I searched and this place came up. We went a little after lunchtime had passed. It looks like a renovated Showa-era house, and being wrapped in that nostalgic feeling really raised my expectations for the meal. Without a reservation, you can only choose from three courses. You can't pick what you want to eat. Starting with yudofu, there are 7 to 9 dishes made with tofu and yuba, depending on the course you choose. Overall everything was really delicious, but the tempura that came out at the end was greasy and smelled a bit off. Maybe the oil was a little tired after the busy hours? The batter was crunchy with a nice bite, a good texture. Maybe the agedashi tofu was fried in the same oil? It smelled a bit too. (Forgot to take a photo) The fresh yuba that came out last in the 8-dish course was super delicious!! There seemed to be a rental tea room in the back. The Japanese atmosphere is wonderful, so if you're thinking of holding a tea gathering, it might be worth inquiring.

Around early January, when I went to Yamaguchi Kannon, I was intrigued by the power phrase "tofu cuisine" and stopped by. The food was tasty, light and refreshing, which was nice. Enjoying simple dishes without meat or fish right next to a temple with a long history isn't bad either. As for the place overall, the engawa veranda, fusuma and shoji sliding doors, tatami, zabuton cushions, kerosene heater and so on create a nostalgic atmosphere, giving the impression of a guesthouse. Note that the menu consists of only 3 courses. There are no individual dishes, so it's not an à la carte style of dining. As for the price, honestly I thought it might be a little expensive.

My wife and I just happened to find it and went in. Since we didn't have a reservation, we went with the ¥2,500- (excluding tax) course of 8 dishes that includes yuba. The two of us felt 100% satisfied with tofu dishes alone! The building is old and some people might hesitate a little, but please go in and see. Inside, a calm space far beyond anything you'd imagine and 『深山』's original tofu dishes (made in-house by 深山) will satisfy you! My favorites were the unohana, agedashi tofu, and fresh yuba sashimi. Whether the fresh yuba sashimi is included depends on the price, but it's sweet and melts in your mouth; if I had to compare it, it's every bit as good as otoro without the heavy fattiness! One last thing. You should order white rice early on. Also, the tempura really should come last. I want you to taste the flavor of the tofu, so that's what I recommend. (※These are only some of the photos. It was so delicious I forgot to take pictures of the rest (lol))

A restaurant where you can enjoy tofu kaiseki, a course meal you rarely get the chance to taste. Set in the woods of the Sayama Hills with a wonderfully open feel, it's noisy with chirping insects in summer and cold from drafts in winter. But all of that helps create this restaurant's unique atmosphere.
