A small museum. There is a natural history section, a farming section, a section about the building the water canal and an area about the writer Nakazato Kaizan. There is also an outside area with a historic Japanese house.
View on GoogleI really had a great time at this museum. I am staying with friends in the local area and we walked to the museum. I used Google translate for much of the interpretation and it worked very well. Because of the walk, I had a better idea of the scale of the history of the area. The staff was very helpful and when I had a question about the silk production. It was in Japanese, but my friend was able to translate and it was very informative. I had a great time!
View on GoogleA village museum well worth visiting when you're here
View on GoogleYou can view things up close and even go in and touch some of the old items, and there's a dedicated staff member giving explanations—a really nice cultural attraction
View on GoogleVisited after seeing the Hamura Intake Weir. You can learn the history of the Tamagawa Aqueduct—especially how one of the Meiji government's radical reforms, allowing boat transport, worsened the water quality and was quickly abolished. It made me realize anew how important the edicts were by which the Edo shogunate protected the water. The thatched-roof old house outside was also a good exhibit that lets you feel what life was like in the old days, like lighting a fire in the irori hearth every day for upkeep. All of this was free to see, and I was able to relax at my leisure.
