I dropped in looking for lunch around Keihachi Station. There's a menu outside, so people wondering whether to enter have all the information they need. The staff (a married couple and a part-timer?) served us with smiles, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I had the lunch (940円 including tax). (The other person had a set meal costing over 1000円.) The miso soup had a barley-miso flavor—perhaps the owner is from western Japan? It was nice to be able to choose 2 small sides. The flavors were bold, the kind that make you eat more rice. I've found a place for everyday visits.
View on GoogleVisited for lunch during my break. No greeting when I entered. While I was still looking at the daily small-side menu, they had the nerve to take it away and show it to another customer. Over 20 minutes from ordering to serving. Even for tempura, isn't that too long at lunchtime...? No hand towel was provided either. My tea ran out during the meal, so I went to get the tabletop pot from the counter myself, but it was empty. When I asked, “Could you refill the tea?”, the shocking response was, “Not possible right now.” I was literally left speechless. I was appalled they couldn't say something like, “I'm sorry, could you please wait a moment?” They came to pour tea a while later, but silently and unpleasantly. No thank-you when I left either. The service is hopeless. It's been a long time since I encountered a place this awful. Laughable. Will I return? Of course not! As other reviewers have said, I'm not asking for over-the-top service. I'd like them to learn the bare minimum. The chicken tendon was reasonably tasty, but the service attitude canceled that out. Recommended only for people who want to be annoyed by bad service and have plenty of time for lunch.
View on GoogleMy first visit. I was craving good tempura, so I came for lunch for the first time. I tried the kakiage don for 930円 including tax. You choose two small sides from three options, which is quite nice. I chose lotus root kinpira and fried eggplant soaked in dashi. The kakiage was 3 centimeters thick, but the batter was thin and crisp, with an aroma suggesting sakura shrimp. The amount of tempura sauce was good too, and I enjoyed it. They asked whether I'd be okay with the substantial regular portion and mentioned a light kakiage don, but the regular portion was no problem at all—I almost wanted a large.
View on GoogleWith the cluttered interior, I honestly wasn't expecting much. But it was much better than expected. It's an affordably priced tempura and Japanese food place (kappo?), but everything served was properly prepared and the ingredients were fresh. It's also nice that the tempura oil doesn't feel heavy, making it easy to eat. Shochu may be one of their strengths. I think the highballs and such are quite good value. You could have tendon and a highball for dinner, or take your time drinking with a tempura course— I think there are lots of ways to enjoy it. I'd be happy to see more places like this thrive.
View on GoogleJapanese food with refined seasoning, which doesn't mean bland. There's a wide variety of dishes that pair with alcohol and keep the drinks flowing. Also, true to its status as a The Premium Malt's master establishment, the beer is exceptionally good. The fineness of the foam, temperature, flavor (which changes greatly with everyday dispenser maintenance)—there are many The Premium Malt's master establishments, but I think few are this outstanding. The owner works quietly and diligently, while his wife? serves with a smile, which feels like a good balance. Do try their signature tempura and oden; I recommend them.
