I would say this restaurant was very adventurous for us. The food was good but way out of our usual realm. I liked the sashimi, carp, and soba noodles. The firefly festival was interesting, I think it was too cold for them to be out. Overall, fun and unique experience.
View on GoogleDining at Ukai Toriyama feels less like going to a restaurant and more like stepping into a completely different world. Set in the forest at the base of Mount Takao, the entire experience is built around atmosphere—traditional buildings, lantern-lit paths, and private rooms that create a calm, immersive setting from the moment you arrive. The meal is structured as a set course, centered around charcoal grilling (irori-style) and seasonal ingredients. The quality is excellent, and the pacing is relaxed, making it a long, enjoyable dining experience rather than a quick meal. Service is very attentive but also genuinely friendly, striking a nice balance between traditional Japanese hospitality and warmth. It’s clearly an important restaurant for many Japanese guests, who come here for family celebrations and meaningful milestones. You get the sense this is a place that creates lasting memories across generations. Reservations are a must, and getting there is easy with a shuttle bus from Takaosanguchi Station, which adds to the overall experience. It’s definitely on the higher end price-wise, but you’re paying for the full package—setting, service, and atmosphere—not just the food. A memorable experience and well worth it if you’re looking for something unique near Mount Takao. Would go back.
View on GoogleHad a wonderful dining experience here. The environment was tranquil and beautifully set, with a lovely garden that made the whole place feel like a peaceful retreat. I’d highly recommend getting a private room to fully enjoy the setting. The food was excellent — the chicken and beef skewers were especially delicious, perfectly sauced and full of flavor. One of my personal favorites was the grated fresh yam on barley, which was simple yet incredibly satisfying. A special mention to the elderly lady who was grilling — her cooking skills were amazing to watch, and you could really taste the care and expertise in how the meat was prepared. What made the experience even more memorable was their hospitality. They surprised me by singing a birthday song when they found out it was my birthday, and even gave me a beautiful soap rose. Such a thoughtful touch that truly warmed my heart. Overall, a great experience with quality food, warm service, and a memorable ambiance. Would definitely recommend and love to return.
View on GoogleBest Japan experience! I ve been there 4 times and I will keep on going there especially for the ambiance and the location. The food though, could be a little bit ameliorated it is quite simple for this level of standing.
View on GoogleWhat an amazing traditional Japanese fine dining experience. We had the Beef tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The service and staff were out of the world and the surroundings are world class and a must do experience. Private dining rooms provide a wonderful environment to savour the delightful food. Can’t wait to return.
