As the name says, a small art museum on a mountain pass. I came here after eating at Kamata Toriyama. Kamata Toriyama has its own parking area accessed from Yaen Kaido. You'll be climbing a mountain path, so wear comfortable shoes. The works at the museum—each artist's personality speaks to the viewer... The director was so kind that I ended up chatting for ages. Apparently you can buy the works too. If there's a piece you like, try talking to the director. Please keep it going for many years to come. It's lovely now with the fresh greenery, but I'd like to visit in every season.
View on GoogleA tiny, tiny art museum in the woods that I honestly don't want to tell anyone about. No admission fee. It's pretty hard to find and there's nowhere to park a car, so it's best to go while strolling around Naganuma Park. Open April–November. Hours 10:00–16:00. Apparently most of the works are by people in their 70s to over 80 who love painting. No website. No advertising, to keep visitor numbers down. Even though I went during the harshest summer heat, the room was cool without any air conditioning, the breeze felt great, and being surrounded by greenery made it the best space. Time flies while you just gaze absentmindedly. There's an irori hearth too. So soothing.
View on GoogleA wonderful art museum at the top of the Naganuma Park walking trail! Admission is free. Closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and closed for winter from December to March. There are various works across several buildings. Paintings are also displayed outdoors, so you can enjoy art amid the greenery in a fresh way. Be sure to drop by when you visit Naganuma Park. Apparently it's run by the owner of Kamata Karasuyama, an irori-grill restaurant. There's no parking, so it's recommended to walk up from Naganuma Station while strolling through Naganuma Park.
View on GoogleSecond visit. It closes in winter, and the only way to check opening info is on site. It's best to approach from the plaza above Naganuma Park. The works exhibited here seem to be by people who once aspired to a path in art. Lots of bugs. 2023/6/4 First visit. 2022/8/26
View on GoogleThe caretaker(?) was working hard on something. It seems to be closed in winter, so next time I'd like to visit in early summer or so.
