Besides the set meals, there's also a system where you choose an individual dish and add a rice set, so I hesitated, but since it was a day of physical labor, I figured I needed meat and ordered 生姜焼き. It had beni shoga on top! Why? But the seasoning was strong and tasty! The thick pork was well-done, but the onions were almost raw! White. So many whys. As I crunched and chewed, I started tasting celery. Once again, so many whys. It turns out the garnish wasn't just shredded cabbage and lettuce, but celery too! So many whys. I like celery, so it was a happy surprise, but all you 山崎まさよし folks visiting should watch out. The rice portion was a little large, and the miso soup was strongly seasoned too! Good news for those who treat miso soup as a side dish. The proprietress brought out some okaka furikake with the cap, or rather the whole lid, off. If you're not careful, you'll end up with a heap of okaka on your rice. There seem to be lots of scathing Google reviewers, but the atmosphere, people, location, everything is part of the “flavor.” It's a delicious place. There was one toddler chair too. They also have tatami seating.

A drive-in restaurant along a national highway The parking lot is spacious and can accommodate trucks. The menu is small, but side dishes such as fried eggs are displayed on shelves, so you can take some to add to your meal. The taste is standard for a neighborhood set-meal restaurant

This is a rare set-meal restaurant in Hachioji-Minamino. The classic アジフライ定食 is freshly fried too, so if you rush to bite into it, you'll be huffing from the heat. The rice portions are generous, and you can enjoy a filling meal. Besides the set meals, there are nostalgic self-service side dishes, which are both wonderfully old-fashioned and delicious. The omelet is sweet, just how I like it. It's fantastic with Worcestershire sauce. There's plenty of parking too, so although it's a little far from Hachioji-Minamino Station, I'd definitely recommend stopping by.

It's lovely to find a place that still retains the atmosphere of old Japan. They served complimentary tempura made from wild vegetables picked in the restaurant's backyard. They also chatted about the backyard, which really showed the owner's kind personality. It was freshly fried, crispy, and delicious. The 生姜焼き was on the sweet side and good too. Was that their grandchild? Seeing the owner, the proprietress, and the child playing together while running the place makes me want to return when I'm tired. Hachioji is lovely too.

At first, the shutter was half closed… and there was a lively older lady inside getting ready. When I asked for breakfast, she said, “Nothing's ready yet, but would whatever I have be okay?” and happily accommodated my sudden request! She asked if there was anything I couldn't eat, and the breakfast she served was: Simmered bamboo shoots (slightly spicy, an amazing accompaniment to rice) Dashimaki tamago (slightly sweet, like a Tokyo-style omelet; freshly cooked was the best) Natto (a generous 1-person portion) Pickles (daikon dressed in sweet vinegar) Miso soup (the strong seasoning really soaked into my body~) Warm rice (every grain had that delicious quality unique to a gas rice cooker! I didn't get to ask whether it was a gas cooker, so I'm not certain) Apart from the natto, everything was warm, homemade food! My stomach was satisfied with the seasonal foods available then! When I paid, she said, “I'd like to say come again, but it's a long way, isn't it?” I don't know when she checked my license plate or whether she noticed my Osaka dialect, but she was so thoughtful! It was such a friendly place, like coming back to my family home, that I'd want to visit again if I had the chance!
