豆腐うかいTofuya Ukai Owada
Pass through the noren curtain, and you are in Edo. Savor tofu cuisine in tatami rooms within a Japanese garden filled with old-town charm and the feeling of all four seasons. 'とうふ屋うかい 大和田店' stands on a street corner in Hachioji. Through the gate in its elegant vermilion walls lies another world, as if you have traveled back in time to an old neighborhood of Edo. Reflect on Japan's beautiful traditional spaces while savoring delicate tofu made with renowned local water from Owada, Hachioji, premium soybeans, and carefully chosen nigari. Enjoy the authentic flavors passed on by skilled artisans. Ancient documents even record that 'Owada has renowned water' in Owada-machi, Hachioji. Precisely because tofu is so simple, we pursue and carefully select its ingredients, beginning with the delicious water drawn here, premium soybeans, and nigari…

Tofu-centric dining experience - in the suburbs of Tokyo metro (in Hachioji). It has a beautiful Japanese garden. The high quality of tofu, freshly made at the facility, is excellent and tastes sweet. Of course the service is impeccable. There is a sister place in Shiba - near Tokyo Tower. Both are highly recommended. Also you can buy tofu and age at the store, which was so yummy!
View on GoogleWhat you are paying for is just the service and ambience. The tofu are slightly nicer than what you can find in a convinience store and if you can find one wet market seller specializing in tofu they might be able to do it better. Ukai’s salty tofu texture is rough and its slightly astringent taste of the soya bean still lingers. Every other dish of their 10K YEN menu is very sub par. The BBQ performance of the dried tofu was a nice-ish touch which made the dried tofu abit crispy and the sweet sauce was nice. But in the end they give you ONE PIECE of the dang tofu, let me remind you, its a 10K YEN menu!! ONE PIECE OF DRIED TOFU! The decor of the outlet feels dated not sure if its intentional but feels like you’re in a traditional ryokan. Even then, everything feels like a cheap movie prop to give the illusion of a nice environment
View on GoogleNice restaurant to have Tofu cuisine course. Tofu is served in variety of cooking ways. Even main dish is made of Tofu, instead of meat or fish. Visitors can also enjoy beautiful Japanese garden.
View on GoogleThis place is nice one too.. All I love ukai companies is they have a very cool surroundings, they have also a lot of cat fish in front of restaurant.. And the waiter is wearing kimonos,, An old Japanese style.. This place my daughter celebrated her (7,5,3) 3,7yrs old celebrations. Be reminded that this is Cosy Place and expensive one.. Kids friendly too.. Family gathering are good one..
View on GoogleIf you’re craving tofu dishes, this is the place! It’s not something to make a trip or journey out of compared to their Ukai toriyama restaurant, but do try it out if you’re in the area! They have a tofu soup that looks plain, but it is so full of dashi flavors!
