A neighborhood Chinese restaurant with a quietly burnished charm! It looks plain, but the cooking is the real thing—cheap and delicious! This time I had a large chuka soba for 500円 (a large portion costs an extra 100円), and the glossy jet-black soup was delicious, with a sharp soy sauce flavor and seafood aroma! The chashu did have a slight smell, though, and chewing it brought out none of the meat's savoriness, which was disappointing! But! Apart from the chashu, it was wonderful chuka soba. The accompanying menma was tender and well seasoned, and a light sprinkle of the black pepper on the table brought the aroma and flavor to life. The curly noodles went down smoothly, and I slurped up the whole thing! All this for 500円—I take my hat off to them! There are counter and table seats inside, and time seems to move slowly. The kindly owner and his wife welcome you as though you're back at your parents' home, and I loved it! While waiting for my chuka soba, I chatted with the owner about delivery, and apparently he'll deliver to nearby neighbors on his trusty Cub! The owner and his wife are elderly, 83 and 81 respectively, and work hard running the place, so please forgive any slowness! I'd really appreciate it if you took that as a sign of the care they put into making the food! They said they don't know how many more years they can continue given their age, and currently it seems only lunchtime opening is reliable! 高社楼 is a neighborhood Chinese restaurant I really want everyone to know about! A wonderful place with a quietly burnished glow, full of warmth and worthy of being appreciated anew—a refuge for the heart! With heartfelt thanks to the humble owner and his gently smiling wife, thank you for the meal! Until we meet again!
View on Google『Wontonmen + gyoza (¥600+400)』... So after visiting the younger brother's shop in Mitaka, I finally made it here too♪…(-_-;)v But they don't have half-portions of fried rice here, so I settled for the above...(lol) The soup had a much stronger soy sauce & dashi flavor than I'd expected, and the thin noodles with just the right soft texture were ( ゚Д゚)delicious♪ And the meat topping (1 slice) was actually proper roast pork♪ The wontons with a little meat filling (5~6 pieces) and the menma were nice too♪ The gyoza made by the wife were definitely hand-wrapped, but a bit too burnt and not so great... Compared with the younger brother's Mitaka shop, the lack of half-portions of fried rice is a big deduction, but for wontonmen + gyoza, including the price, this place feels waaay ahead... Still, it's seriously interesting how different two brothers' shops can be♪...(lol)
View on Google「A Hachioji heritage! Prices frozen in the Showa era」2021/4/11 I visited for Sunday lunch. 「Miso ramen」: 500円 (tax included, as are the prices below) Taste 3.2 points/CP 3.6 points After some indecision, I went with the conventional choice, 「miso ramen」. The basic 「chuka soba」 is 450円. It made me imagine they probably haven't raised prices for decades. The miso ramen served had an animal-based broth with mild miso seasoning. The fat was moderate too. To put it positively, it was a health-conscious, low-salt soup. The noodles were medium-thick and curly. They were cooked just right, without being too soft. The toppings were mainly bean sprouts, with pork, garlic chives, carrots, and onions also visible. Since the soup was mild, I would have liked to add garlic or doubanjiang, but neither was provided on the table. (Chili pepper was available.) Still, as I ate, I gradually grew accustomed to the flavor and ended up drinking quite a lot of the soup. When I visited, the only other customer was 1 woman who seemed to be a regular, having lunch while drinking a 「green tea highball」. Come to think of it, I couldn't find an alcoholic drinks menu on the tables or walls. I'd actually wanted a 「bottled beer」 with 「gyoza」 for 400円 or 「shumai」 for 400円, but held back. It's run by an elderly couple. Perhaps both are in their late 70s? The husband also makes deliveries on a Cub. They're so energetic—I hope places like this can stay around forever if possible. I'd like to designate it a 「Hachioji heritage」 restaurant.
View on GoogleEvening of 2023.10.28 Wakame ramen…550円 2023.10.28-468 Run by the elder brother of the owner of Mitaka's 「高社楼」, which I visited last year, and a shop with roots in Ogikubo's 「丸信」. The use of oils and fats is exquisite; despite its lightness, the compelling pull that keeps you eating is remarkable.
View on GoogleThe exterior is very weathered, so entering takes some resolve, but the menu prices are still in the Showa era—extremely cheap—and the flavor is excellent. I'm glad I worked up the courage to try it.
