Overall it feels like an old-fashioned soba shop. The taste is decent, nothing special. The staff are nice. No soba-yu is served. Maybe they'd have brought it if I'd asked? Payment is by cash.

The moment I walked in, the atmosphere of the place gave me a bad feeling. I went in around 1 p.m. and there were no customers, so my unease grew, but I ordered anyway and went to the restroom… There was only a Japanese-style squat toilet, and since I'm not confident in my legs and back, it was quite an ordeal. And as for the soba itself, I felt that boiling dried noodles at home would taste better. Of course, there was no soba-yu, which I love (well, of course not). I regretted not leaving when I had that bad feeling. However, the staff member who served me was very pleasant, and that was the saving grace.

I'd known about this place for a while, but I often go to the Chinese restaurant right nearby instead. That day, the soba shop I was heading for was temporarily closed, so I came here to Sakura Chaya a little after 11:30. Perhaps because there's no kids' menu either, there were no other customers, although the location is good. At the entrance, a sign said this month's recommendations were tempura tororo soba and tororo soba with mountain vegetables. After going in and looking over the menu, I ordered the tempura zaru soba with tororo for 1250 yen. After waiting about 15 minutes, it was served on a tray. It consisted of tempura, tororo, a raw egg, soba dipping sauce, tempura dipping sauce, zaru soba, and condiments. The tempura was 4 items: shrimp, green pepper, eggplant, and sweet potato. The freshly fried tempura had a thin batter and was fried nice and crisp. The soba was also freshly boiled and decent. At the end, no soba-yu was served, which was a first for me.

The attentive service shows right in the flavor. For men, I recommend the large portion. It's really filling. You also get the tempura freshly fried, so it's nice and crispy. The tororo isn't too sticky either, so it's easy to eat.

I pass by on walks, but the front of the shop is just filthy. I've uploaded what it looked like today (10.23.2021) Even though it's at the entrance to the shrine approach, the front of the shop is really unclean. I'll visit once it makes me feel like eating there (10.18.2021)
