The shop is on the 3rd floor of the Spaghetti PiaPia building, reached by stairs. This time I ordered the "Demi Ketchup Omurice". It's fluffy egg drenched in plenty of demi sauce — a dish that whets your appetite the moment it arrives. The ketchup rice inside has just the right amount of ketchup, with neither the tang nor the sweetness too strong. Even with the egg and sauce it doesn't feel heavy, and I enjoyed it to the last bite. The demi sauce isn't the thick, heavy kind but a smooth, silky type — somewhere between runny and thick. It didn't overpower the ketchup rice and gently tied everything together. Inside there are wood-grain table seats and counter seats by the window, with a bright, casual atmosphere. There's manga to read while you wait, so it seems easy to spend time there alone too. You buy a meal ticket from a machine, and it's cash only. During the pre-opening, they announced they'd open from 11am and close once sold out. Looking forward to this place after the official opening too.
View on GoogleThe thick-cut bacon gives it a satisfaction that's a bit different from regular omurice Visited the omurice shop "PiaPia" — a 2-minute walk from Keio-Hachioji Station and about 5 minutes from JR Hachioji Station — a little after 7pm on a Saturday. Maybe because a typhoon was approaching, I got in with no wait that day. This time I got the Demi-Ketcha with a thick-cut bacon topping for 1,400 yen including tax. A large chicken rice is free, and it's nice that you can choose regular 300g, medium 400g, or large 500g. Even medium is plenty for a guy, and if you want a big meal, large is great value. The egg isn't the soft, runny type but fully cooked. The demi sauce is also light and smooth rather than thick and heavy. The chicken rice leans dry and separate, so opinions may differ here. But just like at Spaghetti PiaPia, the thick bacon makes an impact and is very filling. Inside, it's less a trendy stylish cafe and more a nostalgic old-fashioned yoshoku restaurant vibe. There's manga too, and the laid-back atmosphere is nice. It's a minimal-service style with a ticket machine and self-serve water, and cash only. It's on the 3rd floor with no elevator, and the stairs are steep, so be careful. Recommended for ・People who want a hearty omurice around Hachioji / Keio-Hachioji ・People who find regular omurice a bit unsatisfying ・People who like the vibe of old-fashioned yoshoku restaurants I'm curious about variations like the tarako sauce and demi meat too, so next time I'd like to come back for something else on the menu.
View on GoogleMy wife and I had decided long ago to come once it opened, and we finally made it. We both love Spaghetti PiaPia, so expectations were MAX. There's no parking lot, so if you're driving you'll need to use a nearby coin parking lot. There are several coin parking lots near the shop, so you shouldn't have trouble. The entrance is on the small side, but the sign stands out, so you'll spot it right away. First, climb the stairs to the 3rd floor — on rainy days the steps are slippery, so be careful At the top, a staff member greets you and you buy a meal ticket, then right away you hand it to the staff at the counter and they ask about size (regular, medium, large), flavor (ketchup, curry), and topping (depending on the ticket you bought). My wife got the tarako cream, medium, ketchup rice with a potato salad topping. I got the demi meat, medium, ketchup rice with a thick-cut bacon topping. Seating was counter seats along the window and 4 tables in the middle. The interior had a calm atmosphere, and like Spaghetti PiaPia, there's manga you can read. The omurice arrived in about 10 minutes — there are all kinds of fancy omurice out there, but this is the textbook example of "this is all you need" omurice. The tarako cream came with tarako and shio kombu on the side. Digging in: the fluffy egg and the gentle flavor of the ketchup rice — some people might find the ketchup flavor a bit light, but don't worry. Extra ketchup is available self-service. For me, it was just the right seasoning, not getting in the way of the other flavors. The thick-cut bacon was super hearty and really filling too. The chicken in the ketchup rice was a bit tough, maybe? If the pieces were a little smaller I might not have noticed. Before I knew it, I'd finished in under 15 minutes. It was really delicious — next time I want to try the curry flavor too.
View on GoogleVisited for a weekday lunch. After climbing extremely steep stairs, too narrow to pass anyone, up to the 3F of a quintessential Showa-era multi-tenant building — the polar opposite of barrier-free — you find a cozy little shop. The terror of knowing that one misstep would send you tumbling straight to the bottom. You buy meal tickets from a ticket machine. Regular, medium, and large are the same price. The staff decide your seat, so you can't choose. The water dispenser is in a really inconvenient spot, so if the person in the seat nearest the entrance sits brazenly with their chair angled, there's no way to get through. The counter wobbles, which is scary, and people in the end (corner) seats bump into each other — extremely unpleasant. The space on either side is tight too. So the conversation next to you is very loud. The ventilation also felt poor, so during flu season it's an absolute no. You wait quite a while for the food to come out. I got the curry omurice, but to put it mildly, it wasn't good (personal opinion). The only curry-ness was the smell of curry powder sprinkled on afterward; otherwise it was just a watery liquid with harsh sourness. So I strongly recommend ordering anything other than the curry. But the chicken in the chicken rice was also bone-dry, rock-hard breast meat, and tasted bad. I'd been looking forward to the new shop opening, but I was disappointed on every front.
View on GoogleThe shop had a calm atmosphere, which was really nice. The egg was soft and runny and the sauce on top was very tasty too, but the one thing was the rice, which was surprisingly dry and separate — I think a bit more moisture would've been nice. Since this was the pre-opening, 4 stars with high hopes. I think I'll go eat there again once it officially opens.
