Go down the stairs at the north exit of Nishi-Hachioji Station, turn 180 degrees to the left, and instead of taking the narrow road along the tracks (straight ahead), follow the road as it curves to the right (if you use the elevator from the ticket gate floor, take the road that extends straight in front of you) heading northwest. After crossing the Koshu Kaido (Route 20), walk on the sidewalk to the left, and you will find it shortly. It is next to the Chinese noodle shop "Goemon" that I introduced before. Although the entrance is small, there are two steps, so unfortunately it is not barrier-free. Inside, there are only 5 counter seats and 1 table (for 4 people). The interior is filled with retro items and appliances, creating a nostalgic atmosphere with The Beatles playing in the background. I had the "Dal Bhat Set" (950 yen) with "Vegetable and Chicken Curry" and "Mango Lassi". The Dal Bhat set is a plate of bean (dal) curry and rice, and you can choose one more type of curry and a drink. First, I took a bite of the side dish of komatsuna; the crunchy texture, unique bitterness, and seasoned saltiness stimulate the appetite. The other side dish is a spiced mix of red onion and potato, with accents of aroma, acidity, saltiness, and cilantro. When I broke up the saffron rice, scooped up some dal, and put it in my mouth, the gentle sweetness of the beans and the soft aroma of spices spread. The vegetable and chicken curry was packed with so much chicken that it was overflowing, and the strong spices were effective. The umami of the vegetables and chicken melted into the soup, and the umami of the soup, which was further enhanced by the spices, entered the ingredients again, creating a synergistic effect of umami. Adding the spicy seasoning or the spicy pickled chopped onions set on the table brings changes in spiciness, the texture of raw onions, and acidity, making the spices stand out even more. (*This is just my personal opinion.)

[A small Nepali curry shop along the highway, the menu is small but the authentic taste is very satisfying!!] This is a small Nepali curry shop in front of Nishi-Hachioji Station. The entrance is narrow and not very noticeable, but the handmade signs and menu give it a nice feel. The interior layout is mainly counter seats, with one table for a group. The table was full, and 3 of the counter seats were also occupied. Since I was alone, I was of course guided to a counter seat. From the several set menus available, I chose the C (Dal Bhat) set, which is a set of bean curry, a choice of curry, pickles, dessert, and a drink. I chose the vegetable and chicken curry for the choice of curry, and lassi for the drink. Since the chef, who seems to be from Nepal, was working alone, I decided to wait patiently until the back orders of the previous customers were cleared. The set, served on a single plate, was brought over gently. I understood the reason for "gently" as soon as I saw it; the curry was poured to the brim. It was already slightly overflowing, but since it was on the plate, it was no problem!! The bean curry was cooked with several types of beans such as lentils and chickpeas, and had some viscosity. It wasn't very spicy and was very easy to eat!! The sweetness of the raisins mixed into the turmeric rice was pleasant. The chicken curry had a light finish with tomatoes; this one was hotter than the bean curry, but it didn't have extreme spiciness and left a good impression. The pickles refreshed my mouth, and this was also delicious!! In the middle, I added the onion condiment and spicy sauce to enjoy the change in flavor. The lassi was made right in front of me, and a freshly made, fresh drink is great!! Locals kept coming in one after another, having a lively chat with the master. I think it's an enviable environment to be able to eat Nepali curry in Hachioji (^ ^)
