I went for lunch to "Marutatsu" in Hachioji, which I'd been curious about for a while, and ordered a large butadon. The butadon that arrived had a savory aroma of grilled pork that whetted my appetite, and the portion was generous and filling. As the staff explained partway through, once I'd eaten about half I poured soup over it, and the flavor changed like hitsumabushi, so I could enjoy it to the very end without getting bored. Being able to enjoy one bowl in two delicious ways is really appealing. The atmosphere inside was calm and comfortable, and I could take my time with my meal. I hear the evening izakaya menu is extensive and you can enjoy drinks too, so next time I'd love to come at night and take my time with the food and drinks. The lunch was very satisfying too—a place I can recommend.

The izakaya lunch is tasty An izakaya in the nightlife district, but they do lunch too Inside there's a counter and tables, and it's spacious There's a ticket machine, so you choose there I ordered hiyashi chuka, but the elderly regular next to me was eating a grilled crab and saury set meal that wasn't on the menu The crab served in its shell looked insanely good, so I asked the mama if they had crab on its own, and she said yes, so I ordered it The hiyashi chuka was good too, but the crab in its shell was packed with meat, filling, and really tasty. The crab was 2200 yen.

I went because I wanted butadon. Unlike Hokkaido butadon, this is Aomori butadon, a hitsumabushi-style butadon where after eating half of the several kinds of meat, you pour special soup over it. Lunch butadon 1250 yen
